One of my frustrations with Tumblr is people acting as though anti-transmasculinity discourse is almost entirely a Tumblr thing with maybe some Twitter stuff but Twitter is a cesspit so they mostly discount that anyway.

"How long patient has been living in gender – one year required for GRS" (from the letters I need for top surgery) What does that even mean when you're nonbinary I've been out online and to some friends for years but it's not like I can change my gender at work or present a specific way or anything

"the main and probably only trans guy who helped work on whipping girl is a former lezsep and current Mormon" was not on my bingo card I'm ngl
"While trying to distance herself from the college educated coastal elites, I mean uhh, "transgender revolution" authors, Serano collaborated with trans man Patrick Califia on Whipping Girl. Califia is an interesting person. Much like Serano, I think some aspects of his work are very insightful and others are.... not so much, specifically because it is shaped by his own history (again, like Serano, who I think is kneecapped in the world of theory by her position as a biologist). I think the important context for Califia is that he is a former lesbian separatist and is still an active, practicing Mormon. His history is necessary not brought up to disparage Califia, I very much support queer people with complex relationships with religion and find his work on sexual liberation in particular very interesting. It is, however, brought up to highlight a contrast between the trans men Serano aligns herself with vs the nonbinary trans people she attempts to distance herself from."

There is transmasculinity in Les Misérables (2012), and when I saw that I thought, oh of course. In the movie the revolutionary falls in love with the high class woman, aided by the low class woman,

Dring a time when experts and trans folks both are issuing warnings about trans genocide, and queer folks in general are ever more under attack, this is acutely dangerous. If a kid isn't telling their parents something so basic, it's because they've made a risk assessment about it.

Even in Rochester, one of the most inclusive cities in America, a dead trans man is misgendered and deadnamed by the local news, his transphobic family allowed to have the last words on his life. Every trans death is a murder. We remember you, Danny.

If I can be brutally honest for a moment it's really weird that we very rarely see the discussion of "trans men invading men's spaces" because the implicit (and sometimes explicit) threat of physical violence and sexual assault is assumed to be successful at keeping trans men out.

The offending companies are TG Supply LLC d/b/a TransGuy Supply, ShapeShifter Apparel, LLC, GenderBender LLC, Marli Washington Design, LLC, TomboyX, PBC, FLAVNT Streetwear, LLC, Early to Bed, Inc., TOMSCOUT, For Them, Inc., and Philadelphia 7, Inc d/b/a Passional Boutique. The belief that transmacs OWE cis women is why people ask the question, can trans men be feminist at all? As if by transitioning we transition out of being targeted by misogyny at all, when the truth is that is exactly a large purpose of misogyny.

The key understanding that feminism develops from the outside in, by necessity, because living in a patriarchal society makes conceptualising living outside of it almost impossible except as a long term, multi-generational struggle.

Two simultaneously truths: Online discourse can actually be dangerous because a lot of people in power are chronically online and think it’s how “most people” are AND Online discourse is often very silly and most people offline will have no idea what you’re talking about when you bring it up.

If that is the core belief, there is no reclaiming rf and making it trans-friendly or sw-friendly or whatever. If it's not the core belief, then all other beliefs I have seen laid out that say SWERFs and TERFs aren't "real" radfems are beliefs I could find in the Barbie movie.*

Not even mentioning political lesbianism or separatists. Radical feminism has done a lot of good and has been very foundational in modern feminism. But the core "patriarchy is the root of all oppression" that all rfs I've come across agree on is incorrect and harmful as should be easily evident.

Another by Crenshaw because why not. web.archive.org/web/20210218...
People of color within LGBTQ movements; girls of color in the fight against the school-to-prison pipeline; women within immigration movements; trans women within feminist movements; and people with disabilities fighting police abuse — all face vulnerabilities that reflect the intersections of racism, sexism, class oppression, transphobia, able-ism and more. Intersectionality has given many advocates a way to frame their circumstances and to fight for their visibility and inclusion.

acting as though intersectionality is inherent to radical feminism. Anyway: an essay from a rf about how intersectionality is bad because it means they can't be transphobic and try to act as though Crenshaw is on their side vs... www.filia.org.uk/latest-news/... www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
It was never Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intention to exclude women who defend their sex from the all-encompassing prism her theoretical analysis provides. On the contrary, she admits that there have been “distortions” to its purpose and reminds those who utilise her analytical tool that it was never meant to be “identity politics on steroids.”

The legal scholar’s warning has gone, so far, unheeded by her own self-professed disciples. Perhaps because “intersectional feminists” do not want to respect her intentions, and instead prefer to project their own reinterpretations of the theory, as opposed to what Crenshaw truly meant. She acknowledges this crux, stating during an interview with left-wing political magazine Vox:

Usually with ideas that people take seriously, they actually try to master them, or at least try to read the sources that they are citing for the proposition. Often, that doesn’t happen with intersectionality, and there are any number of theories as to why that’s the case, but what many people have heard or know about intersectionality comes more from what people say than what they’ve actually encountered themselves.Crenshaw is a veteran activist and theorist, but it is young feminists who have enthusiastically turned intersectionality into a feminist cornerstone. When I ask her why, she laughs. “As a term, ‘intersectionality’ has been around since the late 80s,” she says, “so there is something to be said about it being taken up in a robust way 30 years on. It’s like a lazy Susan – you can subject race, sexuality, transgender identity or class to a feminist critique through intersectionality.” But Crenshaw is aware of pitfalls. “Some people can use [intersectionality] as a way to deflect a critique of patriarchy – by saying: ‘How can there be any full structural critique when we are so many different things at the same time?’”

Yes I'm going to keep adding radical feminists saying that patriarchy is the basis of all oppression because that seems to be the only tenet beyond "patriarchy bad and can't be torn down using the tools it built" (common feminist thought in 2025) while trying to explain how misunderstood rf is.
Radical feminism is simply a form of feminism that does not believe women can achieve gender equality within existing patriarchal power structures. It emerged in the 1960s as part of second-wave feminism, distinguishing itself from mainstream forms of feminism with its belief that all patriarchal institutions must be destroyed and rebuilt for women’s oppression to end. As Shulamith Firestone explains in her key text The Dialectics of Sex (1970, [2015]), the goal of radical feminism is

The overthrow of the oldest, most rigid class/caste system in existence, the class system based on sex — a system consolidated over thousands of years, lending the archetypal male and female roles an undeserved legitimacy and seeming permanence.

It feels like they're arguing with liberal feminists from the 60s and 70s and riding off the good they did then while not actually grappling with the criticisms beyond "umm ur wrong we don't claim those other so called radical feminists" and act as though intersectional feminism is inherent to them

Honestly kinda vibing with this summary of radical feminism. Looking up actual resources about what radical feminism means because I think the more people understand the roots and why it's not something to be reclaimed the better. Edit: This thread got out of hand www.thoughtco.com/what-is-radi...
Radical feminism was progressive for its peak, but the movement lacks an intersectional lens, as it views gender as the most important axis of oppression. Like many feminist movements before and after it, it was dominated by white women and lacked a racial justice lens.

Since Kimberlé Crenshaw coined the term intersectionality, giving a name to the practices and writings of Black women before her, feminism has been moving towards a movement to end all oppression. More and more feminists are identifying with intersectional feminism.
