My institution has very tight security with campus logins. While it had been more permissive for a while, we're now back to it making me re-authenticate constantly when I'm not on campus. I think it's a sign the college doesn't want me checking email on my phone and that's ok with me.

HR rep @ faculty mtg: we've noticed a trend of more student timecards being approved late. A few years ago we had ~40 late approvals/year, now it's 150+ So we want every faculty member to approve timecards for their TAs & research assistants, instead of dept admins. We think this will fix things 🤣

ChatGPT junk mail with literally the dumbest use case for AI that I can imagine: 1. this is a solved problem, there are a zillion apps for this including one built in to everyone's phone 2. of course, the place where I really want AI hallucinations is when I'm driving to an unfamiliar place!

Random thoughts from a college that lists Bates as a peer 1. 2 articles in 3-4 years is a red flag for tenure. Book under contract + a few articles is baseline in book fields (I was told book + 4 was safe). Taking non-book route, I had 5 articles (6th in press), 3 book chapters + a review
