To me it's an impressive turnaround from 2022, when our daughter started Kindergarten to the tune of "chrome books for everyone!" to now, where after successively less screen time (and fewer big $$ contracts to ed-tech companies) each year, both kids now report they barely touch computers at school

I’m wrapping up a term as a journal editor by the end of the year, and while working with authors continues to be delightful, finding peer reviewers has really become hell. Everybody is stretched, more people say no or simply ghost us. Senior scholars retiring without replacement. It’s tough.

My institution has very tight security with campus logins. While it had been more permissive for a while, we're now back to it making me re-authenticate constantly when I'm not on campus. I think it's a sign the college doesn't want me checking email on my phone and that's ok with me.

Sure you'll be able to change the defaults - say "always pick store brand, find the cheapest one, prioritize my frequent flyer program or the best layover situation - but I can see a near future for this tech, where consumers who don't explicitly ask otherwise are railroaded into narrow funnels

However, I think the era of "that agent is ignoring ads and serving the consumer" will be *very* short-lived. I think any AI agents that see widespread adoption will quickly end up with product placement baked right in, in the form of defaults.

I saw a YouTube video earlier about Amazon banning the Muse AI agent app, ostensibly because Amazon's ad sales and product placements are optimized for human eyes and (other companies') AI agents sweeping through and ignoring them would be bad for business...

I love trying new beers, but cracking open a new pumpkin ale always feels risky - the style can go so wrong. This one turan out to be pretty good! Strong presence of cinnamon, almost spicy. And I cant taste all that other stuff, the threat of which made me almost put the multipack back on the shelf
