Since the mid-1950s, we have changed the thing that "AI" refers to every 5-10 years. The current thing we're calling "AI" is about a decade old, and all this label-switching leads to a lack of clarity as to what (this) "AI" is.

Turned on CNN, and it’s bizarro world. It’s “normal washing” top to bottom. Everything going on is largely being reported, but the framing is that everything is fine. Normal. Status quo. No challenge to the way things are. You’d never know the global order has collapsed. It’s maddening.

Thinking about the time twenty years ago that someone on a forum I was a member of argued *very* strenuously that, as an American, it was his God-given right to not know who the leaders of countries like Germany, Canada, and the UK were. Goes some way to explaining why things are the way they are.

lol my flight got diverted because of a medical emergency and they landed us in reykjavik in the middle of the night and deplaned us and sent us through passport control and then the crew vanished and then british airways sent us links to book an overnight hotel room but for a hotel at heathrow

9/11 was 25 years ago this year. The United States is 250 years old this year. Which means 9/11 was 1/10 of the entire age of the USA ago. I have no idea if there’s any meaning to that, but I keep thinking about it.
