Super thrilled to see that the blood donor intake questionnaire now includes questions about Ebola (I don’t think they shouldn’t ask these questions, it’s just depressing that it’s necessary)

Reading Gary Gygax’s first draft of OD&D, and instead of NPC he uses the absolutely beautiful phrase “Non-real men”. Can’t stop thinking about the alternate world where that was the term that caught on.

So this game called "Dverghold" came across my Steam homepage. Interesting retro vibes, apparently collabing with a dungeon synth artist for the OST. The art was kinda tickling my AI-dar though, so I scrolled down to look for any disclaimers.

For @playboy.com, I spoke with sex workers around the country who are organizing for self-defense with firearms education, carry permit classes, and gun clubs. As one organizer told me, “It’s very much this ‘stay ready so you ain’t got to get ready’ type thing.” www.playboy.com/read/politic...

I'm really just starting to get a handle on this line & I don't have a strong argument for yet, but it seems there's this thing that happens where a lot of people hear "language creates thought & can even create perception" & then those people, agree or disagree, in their own heads add, "…ex nihilo"

Anyway, when people talk about the deadliness of the OSR, I think about this sort of thing. Sure, you still have 3 hp at level 1, but the principles of broadcasting danger (etc.) and a tendency to have open-world campaigns fundamentally change the experience the same genre of game.

The reason that the Harry Potter apologists won't just read better books is because they're not looking for good stories...if they were, they wouldn't have glommed on to Harry Potter. They're looking for the camaraderie and social phenomenon that Harry Potter was in the 2000s.

It took me over an hour to pack up all my comics. I got really confused as to why I was missing so many and realized I bought *half* to my office. But I still can't find my TPB of Gloom Cookie. 😭

A cover of Gloom Cookie, a gothic comic book. There is a shirt woman in a black dress, a very tall demon like figure behind ger and a glowering 18th century dress man next to a white mohawked punk.

I have just learned that Don Reents has retired. He started Games of Berkeley in 1980, sold that to get Berkeley Game Distributors going, and sold that to get Chessex off the ground. I worked for all three of those companies (but only under Don at Chessex).
