I do believe Zionism is a racist ideology and also fear that the Green Party motion will be abused by actual antisemites who hide their antisemitism behind anti Zionism, even in a party whose leader is Jewish and I don’t envy whoever has the job of trying to stop that happening

So, I felt so low yesterday that I logged out of work at 5pm and slept for 15 hours so apologies for the flurry of RTs as I catch up but at least I’ve seen some context that makes me feel less bad about yesterday

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

There is no contradiction between "the establishment of the state of Israel was an exercise in mass ethnic cleansing that has a direct lineage to the genocide being conducted today" and "branding Jewish people as associating with racists because their community centre is Zionist is absolutely mad"

I don't accept soft Hindutva is a good thing. So, no, I am not accepting soft Zionism as a good thing. No gradation of ethnonationalism is a good thing particularly when it has its hands on the levers of state.

Going to piss off everyone I do not believe any ethnostate of any kind should exist. AND Much of the driving motivation behind this specific motion is in fact rooted in antisemitism. Lots of the people involved here are not acting in good faith. The horrible situation will be damaging to Greens.

While in York yesterday, I got to take a tour around the preserved Cold War bunker/monitoring station while included a short film that could be described as Threads condensed
A small, single storey building, painted green upon a small hill with stairs leading down from an entrance to the street below. A sign to the left of the says VIGILANCE STATEA control room viewed from an upper level circling the room below. In the centre of the room is a large map of the UK on a table with two large perspex panels standing between the table and the blue wall behind with those panels also depicting maps on the UK and red and green dots highlighting bomb blast sitesThe upper level of the control room with a row of communication stations, each with headphones/microphones and a small whiteboard recording dates and other figuresA large, black control panel with many pressure/temperature gauges with pipes leading off screen below. above is a sign exclaiming DANGER in red type

Spent my Sunday in York Loved all the castle walls and checked out the Ghosts in the Gardens, 70 wire sculptures meant to evoke ghosts, spread around the city’s centre and below are a few (more on my Instagram)
A black and white photo of a spooky wire sculpture of a plague doctor with stone arches standing in the background A black and white photo of a wire sculpture of a medieval bee keeper with many ghostly little wire bees around it A close up black and white photo of a iron prison gate with a wire sculpture of a person’s arms reaching out whilst chained by the wristsA black and white photo of the front of the Picture House Cinema in York with a marquee above showing the names of films showing while a wire sculpture of a worker adds an N to the word Sense of Sense and Sensibility

Book I’m reading begins a chapter with a character positing that “cheese is alive”, “self aware” where “herds of cows by the untold thousands … waiting to be milked, while microbial cultures, silent yet conscious … go on bringing a strange shadowy inertia into human character”

Needed to put up a shelf and instead of asking hubby I tried to do it myself with YouTube. Went to the shed to pick up the spirit level I've seen him use, and the shed has twelve loaves of pumpernickel bread and a toaster. And this is how I find out he's a bread fetishist.

I like the dense German style pumpernickel that Aldi sells seasonally in autumn. I don't like to share it with my wife, so my fess is that I bought 48 kg of it and have stashed it in my toolshed. When my wife thinks I am tinkering, I am also toasting and eating into my stash.

There are some great action sequences though (car and horse chases), the humour is weird in a way I like and my heart belongs to Ho-yeon’s Sung-ae (Ho-yeon of Squid Game fame)

Na Hong-jin‘s Hope is a fun time Ok, the film is better when the aliens are unseen or seen fleetingly as the CGI is frequently iffy (though the production design everywhere else is great) and I saw no point in casting Fassbender & Vikander for what little they bring (both unrecognisable)…

"English" is a nationality, not and ethnicity and if you're born here, or settled here, or naturalised here, or just live here and intend to continue living here, even if you don't have permission you're exactly as "English" as anyone else, which is to say not at all because "England" isn't real.

Successful first day in Prague. Ended with an evening stroll, passing the Museum of Alchemy just as they were setting up a puppet theatre production of Faust in the courtyard! It was pretty great! Very much informed by Švankmajer (they did the "Padlookay! Pilookay!" routine, I grinned like heck)...

I did a nostalgia rewatch last night of Arachnophobia (1990) which is still a fun time but then decided to watch Sleepwalkers (1992) for the first time just because I liked the juxtaposition of the two films’ posters side by side and well… SKIP the opening two minutes if you’re a fan of cats
Two film posters side by side:

On the left the one for Sleepwalkers, depicting the silhouettes of many cats creeping up to a house in darkness with the light showing from the windows in front of sky going from a pink and purple sunset on the horizon towards darkness above.

On the right the one for Arachnophobia, depicting a town in darkness in the distance with a sky going from a pink and purple sunset on the horizon towards darkness above with a full moon in the centre. In the foreground are silhouettes of two trees on the left and right with a single spider dangling from a web in front of the full moon.
