Thanks for this! I exclusively work with noisy data and limited datasets (manufacturing batches), and I feel like a fool trying to explain that more data isn't really going to help. It's so ingrained into people.

I think shame is an important part of museums. The past is a horrific place of cruelty and injustice. Instagram selfies in the colosseum mean the tour isn't teaching people what the place is and what was done there. The london Postal Museum has a great exhibit about their use of slave labour

I see this game, 'The Last Gaeltacht,' is getting a push in the Irish media at the moment. Sadly, it is crammed with AI slop. It's especially bad in this case, as this is precisely the kind of game that I could see schools allowing kids to play, due to it being ostensibly educational.

It doesn't even have to do that. It can just give people data they shouldn't have. Or process data shouldn't have. An LLM can use info from your 2003 MySpace profile to say you're not suitable for a job without showing an employer what data it's using. That's enough

I feel this, but i hate stretchy fabric too I always wear long sleeves and then roll the sleeves up. I have slightly short arms, so the cuffs touch my hands. I showed a workmate an old black and white 1970s picture of my dad, and his rolled shirt sleeves were the first thing they noticed.

As a STEM professional, I have always worked with people who dropped out of a phd, or weren't able to finish because of their supervisor or matters outside of their control. It's not a big deal, there are very few jobs where it will be held against you. Hiring managers with phds know how it works

The Sellafield nuclear plant in England, kept fucking up and accidentally dumping radioactive waste into the sea. Beaches were closed for miles around the plant. England is a first world country. The plant was run by the state owned company. The company paid 10k in fines and saved 70M in costs.

Exams are timed because that favours students who learn the answers by rote. Having taught in college, I firmly believe it's a hold-over from when private tutors coached wealthier students by providing answers to learn off It also makes the exams easier to correct if all the scripts are the same

I strongly believe that a lot of prestigious journals are going to collapse over AI inclusion. They offer prestige of passing their high acceptance criteria, its a stamp of credibility. It won't take a wave of retractions to ruin that, just people looking for quality and getting slop
