Their actions can change the meaning of the work and I can't appreciate it anymore. Most times revelations about a creator have amplified concepts of theirs that I was always uncomfortable with. Less about disavowing and more about moving on.

You know how everything bad gets blamed on video games & the internet? I have a theory that it’s golf destroying our society. Few activities have such an outsized effect on the environment, public health and epitomizing the corruption of wealth & privilege. Limit and restrict access to golf.

"Freedom of Speech" by Norman Rockwell
This image is a reproduction of "Freedom of Speech," one of the most iconic paintings by American illustrator Norman Rockwell. It was created in 1943 as part of a four-part series called The Four Freedoms .
Here is a breakdown of the painting's context and significance:
Historical Context: The painting was inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1941 State of the Union address, in which he outlined four fundamental human rights that ought to be protected universally: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear.
The Scene: The artwork depicts a working-class man standing up to speak at what appears to be a local New England town hall meeting. He is dressed in a blue plaid flannel shirt and a worn suede or canvas jacket, contrasting sharply with the older, formally dressed men in suits and ties seated around him.
Symbolism: The central figure's rough, calloused hands and casual attire mark him as a blue-collar worker. However, the wealthier or more formally dressed attendees are looking up at him with respect and giving him their full attention. Rockwell used this to perfectly capture the democratic ideal: that in a free society, every citizen's voice has value and deserves to be heard, regardless of their social standing.
Publication: The painting was first published in The Saturday Evening Post on February 20, 1943, alongside an essay by Booth Tarkington. The Four Freedoms series became massively popular and was subsequently used by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to tour the country and successfully raise millions of dollars in war bonds during World War II.
If you look closely at the hands of the people in the crowd and the pocket of the speaker, you can see a blue pamphlet. These are often interpreted as the town's annual report, grounding this grand democratic ideal in the everyday reality of local civic duty.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...
