You may have seen estimates of how much America has spent on failed national missile defense systems. But Stephen Schwartz is the true authority on all of this. He estimates (below) that we have wasted $531 billion on national missile defense scams. The money goes in; nothing comes out.

Hard for me to believe that voters will back this shift. The US has been an ambiguous actor on the world stage but Americans really do believe it's an altruistic force. No one wants to actively support the Bad Guys!

Not trying to alarm people but just noting that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, among their other important functions, is also one of the small number of people explicitly designated for translating Presidential nuclear strike orders into reality. www.doctrine.af.mil/Portals/61/d...
Cover page of Air Force Doctrine Publication 3-7, "Nuclear Operations" (18 December 2020 edition)"POSITIVE CONTROL

The President may direct the use of nuclear weapons through an execute order via the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the combatant commanders and, ultimately, to the forces in the field exercising direct control of the weapons.

Execution of these orders through emergency action procedures allow for a timely response to an emergency action message and ensure the directive is valid and authentic. Air Force personnel involved in the actual employment of nuclear weapons are intensively and continuously trained and certified in these procedures so they can quickly and accurately respond to the order."

📝 Key note: The DOD report describes Chinese warheads as “operational,” giving the impression that they’re all deployed on their operational forces like Russia and US. However, “operational” actually describes China’s entire nuclear warhead stockpile, whether deployed, operational, or reserve.

Struck by a couple strange things in DOD's latest PLARF chart: - Inclusion of CSS-3 (DF-4), despite not listing it in this (or last year's) narrative as an active ICBM. - Inclusion of "Other" and "Silo" as ICBM systems. That's weird because many listed *are* silo-based. (Is "Other" for rail?)
