I'm now back to the hellhouse. Overall that was a waste of four hours. The room is very nice and the cost is so low as to be tough to believe, but I don't feel comfortable with the "application" he's requesting and even if it's not a scam the chances of me getting it are low anyway.

Had the showing. Place is *really* nice. Close to lots of stuff, not just my work but also shopping, etc. $875/mth seems too good to be true. Unfortunately, it may in fact be. The rental application asks for A LOT of PII. Social security information, bank account numbers, etc.

Just finally got my NorthSky invite that I signed up for months ago. They’ve been utterly radio silent, to the point I forgot I’d applied. Already migrated to BlackSky in the interim, and tbf I’m happy with what Rudy and his team are providing. So not going to use the invite.

Honestly, not leaving BlueSky kind of makes me a hypocrite here. And honestly, I really wouldn't have anything to lose by leaving BlueSky anyway. Recent months have shown that BlueSky does not really substitute for a lack of real friends, and most of the requests I make here go nowhere.

So, fun fact: This irritating AI account (first pic) that's obviously follow-botting kept spamming me with follows and unfollows, so I blocked it. Then I just got followed by this second account, also apparently follow-botting, and look at the bottom there!

The account of at-PudgyCat dot io, blocked. It has tags for "Unfollowed 500+ yesterday" and "Unfollowed 1000+ in the last month".

I just want a single day, just once in my life, when I at no point have to worry about sufficient housing, food, etc.; when I don’t get verbally or physically accosted by anyone (and don’t have to walk on eggshells to avoid it); and just generally when I can feel comfortable and safe.

Okay, I actually got a call back on this place. I told them I’d swing by for a tour either tomorrow or in the evening this week. Will try to go tomorrow if possible. Price per month is still outside my budget, and there’s a $500 deposit due at move-in too. I don’t have $1,700 in the bank right now.

Surprising absolutely nobody, they have not followed through. So, now I have exactly zero leads on places to live. Every even remotely viable place has ghosted. (Phone number not censored because it’s not a personal number, it’s a business.)

Them: Monthly for one person is $1200, for 2 people it is $1300

Me: Yes, I'm interested in a room for one person, on a monthly rate. I work downtown. Would it be possible to see the room in the evening? I could be there at around 5pm most weekdays. I can also come to a showing on the weekend at pretty much any time between late morning and evening, if that works better (but would probably want to schedule for next weekend, not today or tomorrow).

Anchorage People Mover is offering fare-free service from October 1 through October 8—and while that’s objectively a good thing, emotionally I’m a bit salty because I’ve paid for a monthly pass that expires on October 11.

It’s beginning to feel more like autumn in Alaska. Last week it was nearly 60°F during the day and was well above 40°F at night. Now the days aren’t getting much (if any) above 40°F and the nights are getting closer to freezing, with tomorrow night predicted to drop to 29°F before sunrise on Friday.

I’m at the bus stop. There is a man here who is either very mentally ill or extremely inebriated (or both). He keeps shouting aggressively at people and throwing punches and kicks at people. He’s whiffing all his blows (I can’t tell if deliberately), but nobody seems to regard him as dangerous.

I just made two back-to-back mistakes at work—really stupid errors on really rudimentary things, that I definitely knew better—because I’m so stressed out about whether I’m going to be homeless again in a month or two. My boss was polite about it but it was really bad.

Just found out that my first paycheck will not be direct deposited, but rather mailed. Which means I probably won’t actually “get it” on October 9, but more likely a week or two later because the landlords refuse to check the mail more than every week or two.

Numbers are still not certain but are becoming a tiny bit clearer. It’s looking like my net pay per month is probably going to be roughly $3,400. That’s after taxes, health insurance premiums, and union dues (the latter being relative pittance), but before any other expenses.
