Damn bus is late again. And once again filed with at least at least one guy shouting profanity at the top of his lungs, and also multiple children. Bus driver asked this guy to watch his language. He responded about as well as you’d expect.

App still says snow, and not even “light” snow. And I look out the window and there just isn’t any. I haven’t seen the weather app be this wrong in a long time!

Anchorage People Mover is offering fare-free service from October 1 through October 8—and while that’s objectively a good thing, emotionally I’m a bit salty because I’ve paid for a monthly pass that expires on October 11.

It’s beginning to feel more like autumn in Alaska. Last week it was nearly 60°F during the day and was well above 40°F at night. Now the days aren’t getting much (if any) above 40°F and the nights are getting closer to freezing, with tomorrow night predicted to drop to 29°F before sunrise on Friday.

I’m at the bus stop. There is a man here who is either very mentally ill or extremely inebriated (or both). He keeps shouting aggressively at people and throwing punches and kicks at people. He’s whiffing all his blows (I can’t tell if deliberately), but nobody seems to regard him as dangerous.

The confirmation did not say how long this orientation would go, but the two timeslots they offered were 12:00 and 16:45. 12:00 is, notably, lunch, which is an hour. This has already gone for over an hour, and it seems nowhere close to finished.

I just made two back-to-back mistakes at work—really stupid errors on really rudimentary things, that I definitely knew better—because I’m so stressed out about whether I’m going to be homeless again in a month or two. My boss was polite about it but it was really bad.

Just found out that my first paycheck will not be direct deposited, but rather mailed. Which means I probably won’t actually “get it” on October 9, but more likely a week or two later because the landlords refuse to check the mail more than every week or two.

Numbers are still not certain but are becoming a tiny bit clearer. It’s looking like my net pay per month is probably going to be roughly $3,400. That’s after taxes, health insurance premiums, and union dues (the latter being relative pittance), but before any other expenses.

Lol, my work computer has a stock and commodity widget on it (because Microsoft, and unlike on my personal computer I don’t change defaults like that). Everything listed on it right now is red except Gold; Gold is the sole green spot on the entire widget. I’m no economist, but idt that’s good.

Honestly, so far I’ve only had a very small number of interactions with the union and they’ve pretty much all been questionable-to-negative. One of my coworkers recently had to use the union rep on their behalf and also reported being dissatisfied, to the point she was considering cancelling dues.

Apparently Carrs does not have a standee of cheap knit gloves in the front of the store, at least not yet. (They do have a standee of umbrellas.) It’s still fairly early in the year. Hopefully they’ll put some out soon.

The State of Alaska has abolished cover letters and "supplemental questions" as part of the initial application for all jobs below grade 17 (roughly, "all jobs paying <$30/hr") across the entire State, and when supplemental questions are asked at time of application they cannot be essay questions.

This shit irritates me. OP’s own linked source states that it’s a myth that the rings were made from a collapsed bridge. I’m willing to believe that OP isn’t deliberately spreading misinformation. Probably genuinely believed it and didn’t read their source. But that’s still a problem.
