Wait no hold on. We suspected for a long time that the extinction event that affected the dinosaurs was a massive asteroid because of an iridium layer in the K-T boundary. But we didn’t KNOW for a FACT until we found the crater in the Yucatán.

I think "Freddy Got Fingered" has artistic value. I didn't enjoy the movie like I would a regular comedy but watching a purely unfiltered vision of someone like Tom Green with no regard for marketability, conventions, or other 2001 versions of "the algorithm" is one unique experience.

Idk what the sourcing is, but if you look at Pre- and Post-New Deal, FDR was able to really cover a lot of this! Like genuinely take a moment to imagine what life would be like today without these reforms

I have see one of these making the rounds here…. It is an amazing painting by Norman Rockwell in a series of 4 that goes along with FDR’s “Four Freedoms” speech. It was given prior to the Pearl Harbor attack to prep the American public as to WHAT we will be fighting for prior to joining WWII

one of my many, many side projects is trying to figure out a tabletop game inspired by The Favourite and The Death of Stalin where you all play courtiers for some despot and whatever qualities you give your character is reflected with a negative version in the ruler—hence why you are there at all

And there is a version of traditional conservatism that encourages this: volunteerism, sports, church, family, ways of being something in the world. One of the poisonous things about MAGA is how it chokes off this stuff in favor of an inchoate sense of rage and worship of the mighty.
