Legitimately Duncan Sheik’s passing gutted me. Spring Awakening meant SO so so much to me as a closeted teen in a very small town with SO much angst it didn’t feel like it fit in the confines of my body.

My last shout for V&Q Books, the anthology I always wanted to exist. Out today in UK, Ireland, DACH.
It’s a pink and black paperback, BERLIN BABEL, featuring Berlin’s TV tower from below, in front of a fridge full of drinks. There’s a sign written in Cyrillic letters. I don’t know what language it is but I know it means: Choose first, then open.

SUMMER COVEN is out today! Arthur and Sal are back for another adventure as a vampire-husbands crime-solving duo, this time at a summer solstice festival crawling with witchy suspects! 🌙🍧🐈‍⬛ Grab a copy of our cozy paranormal mystery www.rosieethor.com/summer-coven
a table display of Dead & Breakfast (Two men stand in the foreground. On the left, a white man with graying hair wearing a suit and tie holds a cup of coffee. On the right, a shorter man with long dark hair, pale skin, and a ruffly cravat holds a goblet of blood with a silly straw. They both have vampire fangs. Behind them is a field of flowers and a large house with a cat perched on a sign that says “welcome. Over the top is the title “DEAD & BREAKFAST” the tagline “come for the vampires stay for the scones” and the byline “Kat Hillis & Rosiee Thor”) and Summer Coven (In the foreground, two vampires ride a teal tandem bicycle. In front, a white man with graying hair, a light gray suit, and bright red tie holds a pink slushie and looks adoringly at his husband behind him, who has luscious curly black hair, a plum purple suit, puffy cravat, and is holding a blood red popsicle. In the front basket, a black cat perches with her paws up. Behind them, a festival is underway with bright pink tents and red flags in front of dark green trees. People mill about, some wearing pointy witch hats. Yellow text with a pink drop shadow spells out "SUMMER COVEN" over a dark blue sky with a yellow crescent moon at the top, and at the bottom in yellow text is "Authors of Dead & Breakfast" just above "Kat Hillis & Rosiee Thor") side by side with a collection of halloween vibe stickers and booksmarks and a progress flag hung above.

Utah has been very active in banning books of late, but some booksellers and organizations are fighting back by giving away copies of the banned books. Our ultimate goal it to make sure everyone has access to the books they need & there are many different ways to help do that.

Frustrated with book bans, these Utah bookstores now hand out free copies of titles pulled from public schools
The bookstores teamed up Utah’s LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce on the giveaways, which they say they won’t stop until the state stops banning books.

Finding My Spark by Isabelle Jameson and Sylvain Cabo, trans. by Ann Marie Boulanger (August 18th) When puberty hits, Alex begins to realize he's been misgendered as a girl his whole life. First, he stops wearing dresses and paints his room a dark color. Then he cuts his hair short. But people still aren't seeing the real him. His mom has always called him her "little star," but he doesn't feel like shining.

Someone follow up with book buyers at the big retailers (who shape a *lot* of what is seen) — Walmart, target, Barnes and noble, Amazon — ask the actual people who are buying books for their stores why they’re not pushing for more lgbtq+ stories bc buyers are immensely powerful in this conversation

Yes, this can be filibustered BUT 1. A bill isn't dead until it's dead Making assumptions was a big part of the rise of book bans in the 1st place. 2. Fighting the bills also fights the politicians that support them & the ideas they're based on. 3. Every fight is an opportunity to organize. Take it!
