Last night we had a dream of an event at The Perfect Match here in Vancouver. GATHERING COLOUR author Caitlin ffrench joined the shop's book club for Emily Rath's DEVOUR ME and taught everyone to make a plant charm, with infused honey and plants for anything from warding off hexes to welcoming love.

There are publisher and writer groups (mostly in the U.S. that I know of) that try doggedly to position public libraries as harmful to the book business and it is one of the most nonsensical, wildly shortsighted, profoundly offensive business-related positions I have ever encountered. Ever ever.

I wish I'd had the forethought to track the number of hours I've spent working on cross-border shipping in the last year. It's responsible for at least 1/2 the emails I never got around to responding to, an innumerable number of 4:30am wakeups that kiboshed my cognitive function, and SO MUCH STRESS.
