I, personally, would not go on the record with a reporter to announce I’m in favor of destroying the playground my kid is currently loving because I drive to work once a week (and the road still wouldn’t go there anyway), but everyone lives their lives differently I guess

She drives Friday mornings for work as a library aide in San Mateo and wants the option of taking the Great Highway, rather than 19th Avenue. The pathway above the highway always worked when she wanted to go for a run, anyway. Or, wait, does she oppose G?
Told that a “no” vote keeps the road closed to cars, she paused. In 2024, she pointed out, it was the “no” vote that kept the highway open.
“I’m gonna vote to open it,” she said, looking at her son. “Even though he likes it.”

When you see your kid in the wild and they look as awesome as you think they are. He’s riding 9 miles a day for school. Bike lanes matter. Alternative transportation matters. He could take the bus but he chooses to ride. I am so proud. That’s my kid.

There was apparently huge demand to join the bike bus from families who 1) lived too close to regularly bike and not on our route, and 2) walk, scooter, or ride with training wheels so couldn't keep up on our usual daily rides. We planned this special ride to include them, and they came!

The very fun event for kids outside Eastern Market - Hilloween returns again on Friday October 30th - possibly owing to fact there's no DCPS school that day, it will be held from 4-6p. Last year it was 4:30-6:30p and years before it would be go til like 7:30p.

Why do cyclists on metro under 16 have to be accompanied by an adult (at least according to the sign in the elevator) but younger kids (like 10) can ride metro rail on foot by themselves?

A sign that your secure indoor bike room is too inaccessible/difficult for long tails to deal with. They’d rather park outside where it’s “riskier” than have to drag their bike up the curb and get it through a heavy door in a narrow hallway.

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.
