😈 Ten days vanished! On October 15, 1582. The Gregorian calendar took effect in parts of Europe: October 4th was followed by October 15th. The Devil looks suspiciously pleased with that trick! 😈 16 days until Halloween! #31DaysofHalloween 🎃 #HalloweenCountdown

15 October is Kuprian and Ustinya in the Russian folk calendar a day to seek protection from witchcraft and evil spirits. Legend tells how the magician Cyprian sent demons against Justina, whose prayers defeated his spells. He later converted to Christianity. #SlavicFolklore #OnThisDay

#FolkloreThursday #AncientRome 🐎 On 15 October, ancient Rome honoured Mars with the October Horse ritual. After a chariot race, the winning team’s right-hand horse was sacrificed. The Subura and Via Sacra then fought over its head—a grisly neighbourhood trophy. #TheOctoberHorse 🏇🩸🗡️

#WyrdWednesday Mysteries of the Worm (1981) by Robert Bloch. A one-volume collection of his weird fiction, expanded in subsequent reprints. Many of the stories center around De Vermis Mysteriis, one of the books of occult lore that he concocted in his stories.
Cover of the 2009 printing. Art by Steve Gilberts. A creature with six thin limbs, six spikes on its head, and sharp teeth leaps in the air. Tiny humanoid figures below it are arranged in a circle and leap in the air with their arms raised. Tall spires rise up around the scene.
