Probably the best Windows 9x defrag simulation I've seen thus far! defrag98.com It's a more legit simulation than I've seen before. So each time you load this up you get a new virtual drive that's differently fragmented, rather than just playing back a preset animation

Was going through my photos of when I visited Ars Electronica (the long-running new media art festival in Linz, Austria) in 2019. Back when Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) were still at the frontier of AI image generation. It seems all so quaint now.

i really was trying to figure out how you might use diffusion or LLMs to make creativity more interesting - but the issue was that the arc of the tech bends towards the annihilation of constraint, which means the annihilation of play.

when stable diffusion was first released in 2022, i was chatting with a friend about processes that preserve joy, using MS Paint as an example and he went "oh, you could use AI to finish the drawing for you!" i still don't understand what he thought would be the point of that

Procedural Generation is entirely about knowing how you, yourself, would approach a repeatable problem and translating that into step by step operations that could theoretically be followed by anything capable of reading your instructions. It is technological recipe writing.

I think if you needed any more evidence that the cuts are shortsighted and focused on cutting as deep and as fast as possible with little regard for the future, this is pretty definitive. That engine felt like magic in some spots. A colossal waste of talent and resources.
