Think tanks will soon start releasing non-peer-reviewed modeling of how the permitting bill might affect pollution, if they haven't already. Most will secretly have lots of ideology-driven thumbs on scales. One big way to tip the scales is by ignoring pollution associated with oil and gas exports.

This is all correct - I’d emphasize ongoing low transit of other Gulf energy outputs, especially LNG and diesel. More critical than crude. Diversion of strategic naval assets from Asia, threat of other horizontal escalation. And all essentially for nothing.

Italy is getting absolutely hammered by the spike in gas prices. Wholesale electricity prices were above €200/MWh in September, the highest in the EU. Italy relies on gas for over 40% of its electricity generation...a costly position to be in.

About 5% of US households heat with oil, mostly in rural areas and the Northeast. At these heating oil prices, a new heat pump pays for itself in oil cost savings in just a few years - and does double duty as a new central air conditioner. I hope that 5% becomes 0% this winter.
