Ah yes, today is the day that somehow manages to be both national, global and regional at the same time.

What Sam said. Meanwhile, in Denmark, migrants' kids lag 20/30/40 points behind on average -and there are still people here who think *we* should copy *them* on immigration/integration.

Turns out you can extract the rotation of a wind turbine from a single pass of a satellite 🛰️ Each time a Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite passes overhead it actually captures multiple images across different spectral bands.

No, it went in the opposite direction. Prior to 1991 a child born in Germany to legally resident foreign parents could not acquire German citizenship (but someone born in Kazakhstan with a German surname could). Over time the law evolved to approximately converge with UK nationally law.

Although citizenship law reform didn't start till the 90s so kids born to foreign parents in Germany couldn't acquire German nationality

This particular plate was drilled but never used in the @sdssurveys.bsky.social . So today is the first time it has been used to observe the sky.
Hundreds of projections of the solar eclipse. In each the Sun is crescent shaped due to the moon getting in the way

It's a big metal plate with holes drilled in it. Each of those was made to match the positions of stars or galaxies in a patch of the sky. A fibreoptic cable was the plugged into each hole so the light from these objects could be fed to a spectrograph

I agree data centres in space aren't going to be a significant contributor to the number of satellites in orbit in the near or medium term. However the article mostly covers a more pressing issue, the sheer number of satellites being put up as part of large constellations changing the night sky

Niall Deacon @nialldeacon.com · 22/07/2026
Any object orbiting a broon can then be classified as an "oor wullie"

Since we don't have a good name for the satellite of a brown dwarf I would propose "broon"

I wonder if Yusuf's position is a bit of sleight of hand. It would only apply to those on housing benefit (which the vast majority of immigrants do not qualify for) while Restore's policy is every single non-UK national (including I assume Irish citizens in NI) renting from a housing association.
