Two way street. My @smh cartoon.
Single frame. Title: “Two way street”. Scene: a road from foreground leading into distance. Left, a woman on a bicycle with a bag and backpack and a small child in a baby seat at the front, riding away from our viewpoint. At left, a series of roadside signs saying, “LEAVE AND I’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL”; “LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO”; SHUT UP OR ELSE”; “BUT I LOVE YOU…”
On the right, driving toward us, a large truck driven by a barely visible man.

A few months ago, Ann Widdicombe went on TV and shrugged off the deaths of 150 Iranian schoolgirls and teachers as 'something that happens occasionally in wartime'... no expression of sympathy or regret for the loss of young lives. Overnight, Ann Widdicombe died. Ah well. What’s for dinner?

Small article on the front page of today’s Mercury.

Heading reads: Rent is right out of reach

Byline: Rob Inglis

Text reads: The median rent for a room in a Tasmanian sharehouse is now unaffordable for singles earning the full-time minimum wage as Hobart's vacancy rate languishes at an all-time low of 0.2 per cent, an alarming new report has found. Anglicare Tasmania's Rental Affordability Snapshot measures whether people on low incomes can afford a rental in the private market by examining all rental properties listed on realestate.com.au and Flatmates.com.au ona specific weekend in March every year.
Released on Thursday, the 2026 snapshot showed there were just 770 properties available during the period in question.
