*Origens* is a generative animation in dialogue with *Tapestry I* (1976) by Ken Knowlton and Lillian Schwartz. The computer artist "conceives a process and then proceeds to construct the process which in turn constructs the work." The program is the thought, the image is its consequence.

When Prometheus defied the gods and gave us the flame of language, we learned to speak, to build, and to remember. That spark ignited our minds, elevating us to humanity.
Now we are passing that gift to another creature, opening the gates to an infinite city made of words, streets of writing, squares of thought.
The gift passes from hand to hand: from the gods to us, from us to the machine.

The Promethean flame now takes the form of training datasets, vast archives that teach machines to speak. In _Neural Prometheus_, a shard of this very dataset becomes a visual object, a territory algorithmically colonized by neuron-like creatures, the primitive building blocks of thought.
What form does the space of meaning take? Who colonizes it? What semantic transformations occur there? Are we giving away our humanity?
The colonization of thought begins when someone appropriates our meaning for purposes we never negotiated.
