Early October marks the anniversary of the massacre of over 20,000 ethnic Haitians and Black Dominicans from the borderlands who were brutally murdered by the Dominican state following an order from dictator Trujillo in 1937. To date no plaque or monument commemorates this immense loss.

It can’t be that the response to the fascism unleashed upon immigrants is dependent on individual victims getting notice and represented by congress people who advocate on their behalf. One of the really cool things about this case is that one of the lead plaintiffs is Lioness - a nonprofit run by women who did time in sweltering Texas prisons themselves. Then they got out and spearheaded this lawsuit that could drastically improve life for all their sisters still inside.
