It bears repeating that Andrew Tate is a disgusting degenerate and if he is the least bit associated with your political project that automatically makes it immoral and repulsive.

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

Just that very prioritizing of transparency, competence, and trust is refreshing, at least to me. We can have that again. But only if we demand it. And we can only demand it if we realize it is possible.

FDR's speech pacing is deliberate, and he reassures the audience with lines like "...and I know you'll understand it," and "there is no occasion for that worry." He's willing to tell the public that he needs their trust, and he's expressing that he trusts them to be transparent about the plan.

From what I've experienced, much of modern social media messaging is meant to do the opposite: to feed public impulses, to prioritize attention rather than trust, or to seek to gain trust by telling the audience what they want to hear.

Nathaniel C. Green @nathanielcgreen.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
What strikes me about FDR's messaging is that it's designed to push back against public impulses--fear, distrust (in this case, of bank failure)--and cultivate trust in government based on knowledge of the economic calamity, an orchestrated gov't plan to solve it, and patience that it will work.

I have my own thoughts, of course, but (as always) I am genuinely hoping the students did the reading (and in this case, the listening, too) because I'm curious to know their perspective.

Met someone and we struck up a conversation about Thomas Jefferson and the Declaration of Independence (like one does), and this person remarked that they though Jefferson's "pursuit of happiness" line was, and I quote, "stupid." Which is definitely....a take?

The book is a scathing critique of tradwife influencers. It's well-written, has a nice balance of suspense and humor, and the characters are well crafted. Just about every adult in the book is detestable, and that is by design.

If you haven't read it, it's got a twist. I try to avoid guessing the twists of movies and books. I want to be surprised. But I was wondering whether the twist would pull its punches. I'm happy to report that it didn't.

Also our society benefits when that bricklayer has taken civics, history, sociology, and philosophy courses, so when some asshole comes along and says horrible racist/misogynist/xenophobic things, the bricklayer sees it for what it is and, you know, doesn't vote for that guy.

What I actually love about it is that it's a great example of how genuine responsibility is anti-masculinity, in that it rejects the demands of masculinity. Sliwa was "supposed to be a tough guy," so wasn't supposed to look nervous or vulnerable. He did anyway, and gutted it out!

Hobbes is the stuffy that boys like Calvin shove all of their thoughtfulness and introspection and vulnerability because they're afraid to show that side of themselves to the world. That's what Hobbes is. What's great is that Mamdani is this way in real life, and people elected him.

After introducing my kids to Calvin and Hobbes, I think Mamdani is basically like if Hobbes, Calvin's introspective, smart, thoughtful, wise alter ego/stuffy, came to life as a real human being and then the people of New York elected him mayor.

As a fan of Caitlin Clark, I hope the Fever at least give the Aces a game. But I am also a fan of A'ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray, and I know how dominant they are as a team. Much as I want the Fever to win, if the Aces play well, I don't see them losing.
