I just find it hard to comprehend the mindset of someone that would defend this. Saying this is justified — good, even — is so plainly outrageous, it should be an opinion that exists on the absolute fringe periphery of our society. As it stands, it is the default position of our leaders and media

And this is closely tied to the question of how to distribute CDR capacity (to the extent that we can even scale it meaningfully) across residual and legacy emissions. The first type can't barely generate weak demand in voluntary markets despite all the hype, the second type is a public good

In a nutshell, the implications of formally entering 1.5C overshoot are straightforward. The absolute first and most important thing you need to do, are immediate and rapid emission reductions! Without it, adaptation becomes difficult, potentially impossible; carbon removal futile and infeasible.

I have a new paper out in the Australian Journal of Politics and History: “Monetary Targeting, Wages and Inflation in 1970s Australia: Always and Everywhere a Distributional Phenomenon?” doi.org/10.1111/ajph...
“Mr Whitlam showed himself to be a clever debater. He was asked by a member of the opposition whether he had read the comments that I had been making about inflation being caused by money and government expenditures, and whether he was still inclined to believe that the major source of inflation had been the rising wage rates; and if it was the latter, whether he had gotten in touch with Robert Hawke (the president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions).
Mr Whitlam's answer was that the questioner had referred to two eminent authorities, that he thought the second of the two was rather more familiar with this particular situation in Australia than the first, and that therefore he was inclined to accept his
views.”
- Milton Friedman, reflecting on his 1975 visit to Australia.Theory tells us we have to make a choice - do we go for a monetary growth rate... and phase out the independent role of wage, exchange and price-level authorities; or do we abandon the money supply and elect, in effect, that the Arbitration Commission move to Martin Place?

-Michael Porter, 1978.

have you considered that gas giants built this country, with their bare hands, from the goodness of their hearts
Resources minister says gas companies have spent billions establishing energy infrastructure
Madeleine King, the federal resources minister, said there was no change in the government’s position on the taxation of gas.

She spoke to RN this morning, saying gas companies had spent tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars over decades to create gas facilities, calling claims gas companies were getting gas at a sweetheart deal were “absurd”.

She said:

These facilities support communities across the country … It’s only in the universe of the Greens party and their friends that they can say that spending hundreds of billions of dollars across the country could be considered in any way free. It’s clearly an absurd position.

We’ve got to remember what those billions of dollars of investment has delivered for the Australian people and what we get out of it. And one of those things is a domestic gas supply.
