I don't doubt that English Labour see Burnham as the new Saviour of the Left. He said some good things today but everyone outside the starstruck audience knows that the UK is in deep trouble, (esp England). Andy Burnham announces end of triple-lock on the state pension from 2030. It will be replaced by double-lock, slower growth in state pension. Full state pension is already less than 50%of the minimum wage. Poverty awaits future retirees. £500bn of taxes not collected by HMRC since 2010.

Most of Burnham's promises were for policies to be introduced after the next GE, the national care service, reform of the voting system, closer ties with the EU, all put off until after the next GE - political code for ‘never’. It was a very traditional Labour speech, the jam is always tomorrow.
