It's confirmed: I've lost my dissertation funding. @universityofkansas.bsky.social Students across the US lost FLAS fellowships to study foreign languages and fellowships to conduct dissertation abroad. Contributes to the already precarious challenges to monthly sustenance and dissertation plans.

Protestors in Nepal overthrew the government in less than 48 hours due to corruption. They refused a curfew, spread protests across all cities, fought police in roaming street battles, burnt down politicians' houses, stole military weapons, stormed the parliament & burnt it, forced the PM to resign.

It's quite revealing that the group of people who pride themselves on "modernity" and "inclusivity" ensured that one of more prominent genocides of the contemporary was orchestrated and led to it's complete manifestation.

Part of what is so difficult to stomach about this is that Professor Thrasher's public scholarly work is so thoughtful, rigorous, and in the service of our collective good. The Viral Underclass is an incredible book, and I think about it often.

Trump is seeking to deport another academic who is legally in the country, lawsuit says www.politico.com/news/2025/03...
A Georgetown University researcher, who was studying and teaching on a student visa, has been detained by federal immigration authorities amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on student activists whom the government accuses of opposing American foreign policy, according to court papers.

Masked agents arrested Badar Khan Suri, an Indian national and postdoctoral fellow, outside his home in Rosslyn, Virginia, on Monday night, his lawyer said in a lawsuit fighting for his immediate release. The agents identified themselves as being with the Department of Homeland Security and told him the government had revoked his visa, the lawsuit says.

Considering racism is built into the structure of everyday ecologies, we reviewed Environmental Psychology journals (JEvP + E&B) to interrogate how the discipline (dis)engages with racism. We discuss a racism-conscious & racism-centering approach to Environmental Psychology.

Are most American journal staff jobs (post-article acceptance) typically outsourced to Indian workers? (eg. Elsevier, Wiley, Sage etc) Do you know anyone who has written about it? Is this 'another' naturalized inequity of labor that academia is participating in? #AcademicChatter

If you're an international student and on the academic job market in this cycle, it is imperative that you talk about H1B with your dept as soon as you accept the offer. It's going to be much slower and messier. Many (small) depts don't know what this is like very well. You need to be proactive.
