People often ask what your name says about you. But what about what your name says to people? 🤔 This is the question that Anthony J. Lee (@antlee53.bsky.social), Odette Lis, and Sofia Panagiotakou answer in their new paper now published in Social Cognition. 🧵 Opening thread!

Prior research has cast doubt on the validity of implicit measures, finding small correlations amongst indirect measures of racial bias. However, these measures vary systematically on key procedural aspects. 🧵👇 Open thread below:

👋 🗣️ People of SPSP: I am super excited to present two sets of projects this week at SPSP! The first project looks at the experience of collective resignation (or disaffected consent) with the U.S. economic system among U.S. adults for the past 5 years. TLDR: too many people feel resigned

🚨NEW PREPRINT ALERT! Why is there no coherent labor movement in the U.S., despite widespread outrage at economic inequality? One answer is that structural/systemic factors (such as Right-to-Work legislation) impede collective organizing. #Polipsy #socialpsychology #sociology #polisky

Speaking today at #SSSP in Memphis about how structural factors like labor laws and material conditions can inhibit collective organizing. If you are not here yet, you can still book your tickets to Memphis to see this riveting blitz with some fancy multi-level modeling.
title slide for conference presentation. White background with big bold letters reading: "Right to work, left to struggle: State labor policy and precarity constrain labor organizing". In smaller letters are the names of the authors: Eva A. Garcia Ferres, Abhay Alaukik and Gregory D. Webster. At the bottom, it's the University of Florida Psychology department logo, and the SSSP logo. On the right side of the slide there is a drawing of a pro-labor protest with women holding signs that read "Women support labor" and "equal rights". The drawing also has a title at the bottom that reads "equal pay for equal work regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. Unions built this"
