What started as a low-cost pilot project in Honolulu is now a fully reconstructed roundabout. In 2018, the city used temporary materials to transform a traffic triangle into a roundabout. In 2025, they finalized a full reconstruction that manages stormwater and protects people walking and biking.

NHTSA is considering adding a rear pedestrian safety metric to federal vehicle safety ratings. The update would indicate whether automatic emergency braking systems can detect a pedestrian behind a reversing vehicle. The proposed test includes dummies modeled after both adults and 2-year-olds.

The NACTO community is mourning a profound loss. Last Friday, Riley O’Neil, a Complete Streets Planner with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), was struck and killed while riding his bike in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.
