Some of us don’t have the luxury of choosing the tools we have to use, so we make accommodations. Now I’ve significantly simplified the process and the tooling took a while to build as well as the context / taxonomy of our organization that had to be drafted, but happy to talk more.

My product team has shrunk by 80% this year but the number of development team and projects have increased. I have removed the friction of busy work and can focus on the conversations - which is where agile development takes place.

AI tools such as Claude code are really good at parsing information. Using tools such as this, we can take transcripts and create or modify stories in Jira within minutes. Jira is just a repository. Before anyone comes at me about using AI to create stories, you still have to review everything.

The one saving grace is Jira and Confluence have APIs. Our process is: important meetings and discussions are transcribed. Every discussion holds the most important information for the project. This is where it gets interesting.

The problem with tools like Jira is it takes a huge effort to keep everything current. What did we just decide in standup that now impacts 7 stories? Most teams cannot keep up with the updates because the tool is clunky. It slows down agility. It sucks the life out of your soul.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that doesn’t work for you and your teams. Jira is a tool, confluence is a tool. The problem is making sure you and your team has a single source of truth and that it reflects the most current understanding of the work.

Jira plus Claude code makes it just fine. None of my team works in the same location so stickies or spreadsheets, and or docs don’t cut it. Also I have five teams. I don’t think you can say one tool fits all or vice versa. Results are what matters. Continuous delivery and happy customers.
