This story was just so hopeful despite the setting of a deadly virus… Maybe it’s too much wishful thinking considering our current geopolitical situation around the world, but how I wish there was such timely interplanetary cooperation during disasters..

This must be the third video of wonderful voices singing global scales I have seen, and each is mesmerising and has taught me things I didn't know. Such as: That these scales exist and how they, the bare backbone of tunes, reflect and unlock whole world regions' music. This is amazing.

Page from a book saying:

From EARTHSEED: THE BOOKS OF THE LIVING
Choose your Leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar
is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

Common Sense, published 250 years ago today.

Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.

Still got it baby www.esquire.com/entertainmen...

If Books Could Kill
Have you ever come across a book, most likely a self-help or motivational book, flipped through a few pages and thought, There’s no way people are falling for this crap, right? And then you find out that the author of that book just appeared on a podcast or nine. Turns out they’re the star of the moment, and their grand theory about whatever pop psychology du jour is making the media rounds. But, seriously, no one’s falling for this, right? Right? Thankfully, If Books Could Kill tactfully takes down these books that are often heralded as works of genius when in reality they are, to put it diplomatically, maybe not as deep as they think they are. And it’s not just mean-spirited hating. The hosts, Michael Hobbes and Peter Shamshiri, are sure to back up their claims with thoughtful research for counterarguments. But, sometimes, you also just have to call out bullshit when you see it.

Now add the "happy endings are dumb and not high art or prestige TV" people, and you can probably see exactly what we're going to be subjected to when the last episode of Heated Rivalry drops. but you can't help people w/ that mindset, so just enjoy the show and go back to reading when it's done.

Well this is new. Goodreads has implemented a new feature for reviewing advanced copies that asks you to "verify" where you got the copy from. Your review is then labeled with the source. On the one hand, these extra steps might stave off bots? (1/?)

A computer screen that says "This edition has not yet been published. Only readers with advanced copies of this book can rate it. Go to the book's page to verify you have an advanced copy and rate the book?"

A screen shot for submitting your "pre publication rating" which includes your stars, which shelf the book should go on, and the tab to choose which source you received it from.

A screenshot of a submitted Goodreads review, which includes "Review of advance copy received from Netgalley."
