“No, mam,” Theo mutters, eyes only for the stranger whose pale skin almost glows in the firelight as she peels the madder-dyed hose away from her leg wound, hissing at the sight and likely from the pain of the motion.

“None pursues me,” she replies. “It is the opposite.”

Unsure what to say to that, Bronwyn sets the threaded needle onto the table and reaches to touch the outskirts of the gash, arrested when the woman moves faster than thought, hand darting to grasp her wrist in a tight hold. Bronwyn sucks in a breath, freezing in place.

“The door first.”

Theo makes a stifled sound, but Bronwyn only has eyes for the one who holds her fast as she says, “Bar the door, Theo. Then fetch me the boiling water.”

I have reached that point at last of trying to fix the laptop my mother has somehow tied up into a frothing mess of CPU and Memory and Disk space.
