2026 as a whole is now on track to end up roughly tied with 2024 as the warmest year on record in ERA5, at 1.6C above preindustrial. And 2027 waiting in the wings to be quite a bit warmer on the back of a record-setting El Nino event.

Zusätzlich "befeuert" durch El Niño liegt die globale Meeresoberflächentemperatur derzeit auf neuem Rekordniveau seit der Messungen 1979. Vom Durchschnitt (Mittel) 1991-2020 haben wir uns schon länger deutlich entfernt. /FR

The rise in Niño 3.4 region sea surface temperatures over the past few weeks has been nothing short of astonishing. We are now hotter than any days during the 1997/1998 super El Niño event, and we are still many months from the peak.

Touristen fliegen nach Mallorca und beschweren sich aktuell dort, dass man sich im 33 Grad warmen Mittelmeer nicht mehr abkühlen könne. In Bildern: 1 Mittelmeer 2 Weltmeere 3 Quellregion El Niño. Eine extrem angsteinflößende, nie dagewesene Anomalie. Seit 4 Jahren. #Klimakatastrophe

That dip in the 1990’s was Mt. Pinatubo. Approximately 18gt of CO2 left the atmosphere, but whatever left the atmosphere appears to have returned in full by 2001. The linear growth in the “rate of change of atmospheric CO2” is equivalent to saying that overall atmospheric CO2 is accelerating.

Würde das im Eis gebundene Wasser von nahezu 30 Mill. km3 völlig abschmelzen, müsste der Meeresspiegel – bezogen auf die heutige Meeresfläche – um fast 80 Meter ansteigen.
