Lilo and Stitch meant the world to me as a young adopted Indigenous girl. Haven’t seen the remake but hearing that Lilo gets handed over to foster care is heartbreaking, problematic, and not in alignment with the original movie message at all.

I read that children 6-12 are more likely to be killed in Gaza because they’re too big to be carried, and not as fast as children 12+, and I can’t stop thinking about it. We have children running for their lives on the regular so much so that there are patterns as to who survives.

The spread of Mpox in Sierra Leone is unlike anything we have ever seen - and we have been keeping an eye on this bug in the region for >15 years. Given geographical spread, 50/50 men vs women, this is no "sexual network". This could be the next one. clt.npha.gov.sl/outbreak.aspx

Ableism is everywhere. When you say “only the vulnerable have to worry”… that’s ableism. When you tell someone to “just try harder”… that’s ableism. When you ask if someone has pre-existing conditions? That’s ableism. No social justice without disability justice and inclusion.

It's hard to explain how, in the 80s and 90s in NI, pre internet, as a kid, unless you had a queer person in your immediate family, you just didn't even know queer was a thing. And yet I'm still queer. You can take away the words kids can use to describe themselves, but they will always be queer.

Trans people have been excluded from every single step. From Cass. From the Supreme Court. From the EHRC. From politics. From the media. And still, trans people will be blamed when this explodes in everyone's faces despite trans people warning, for years, that this is what would happen.

Look what Gary Lineker said to Oliver Brown and the Telegraph about trans people...
Full page interview with Gary Lineker. The headline is "Trans people are some of the most persecuted on the planet"When The Rest is Football tried a public question-and-answer experiment last November, Martina Navratilova, Sharron Davies and hundreds of other women asked him what he thought of the FA banning a teenager – revealed by The Daily

Telegraph last weekend as Cerys Vaughan – for asking a transgender opponent: “Are you a man?” Even under pressure from a nine-time Wimbledon singles champion and a celebrated Olympic swimmer, he neglected to engage. Why?

“Ugh,” he sighs, slumping so far forward in his chair he nearly hits the table. “You can’t cover that subject properly in a post. It’s too nuanced. I don’t actually think, in terms of sport,

that it will ever be a real issue. Sport, as it’s already doing, will sort it out and work out rules. Like they did in boxing, when they realised they couldn’t have heavyweights against little fellas.”

Is it not blindingly obvious, however, that sport will not simply “sort it out”? It has taken many determined female campaigners a punishingly long time to undo the damage of gender ideology, compelling sports to prioritise fairness for women rather than vacuous mantras about inclusion. Amid broad acceptance that the rights of half the population should trump the view of a small, vocal minority of men that they are entitled to colonise women’s sport, Lineker makes it clear where his sympathies lie. “They’re some of the most persecuted on the planet, trans people.“You’ve got to be very careful not to have bigoted views on that. I genuinely feel really badly for trans people. Imagine going through what they have to go through in life. Is there even any issue? It’s the same swimmer, the same weightlifter, the same boxer. They’re the only people I ever see.”

Lineker’s perspective here is myopic. The three examples he raises – American swimmer Lia Thomas, New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, not transgender but permitted to win gold as a woman at the Paris Olympics despite sex tests indicating the presence of male chromosomes – are indeed well publicised. But they are far from the only ones he could cite, with a recent report by Reem Alsalem, the United Nations special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, documenting how governing bodies’ failures to act have led to more than 600 female athletes around the world losing 890 medals in 29 different sports.

In his eyes, only cases at elite level matter. “We’ve got the Women’s Euros in the summer. Let’s see if there’s one issue – I don’t think there is. Are you telling me that there are many people who pretend to be women just so they’re going to be good at sport?”

The desire of some males to receive affirmation as female can be a powerful motivating force, I argue. “It’s so complex,” Lineker says. “I see both sides to a degree.”

"Sinn Féin officially banned from Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin after period of engagement," says this press release from Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin.
Sinn Féin banned from Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin march after period of engagement with party leaders

Last month, Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin released a statement calling on Sinn Féin to clarify their position on the UK Supreme Court and the ban on puberty blockers in Northern Ireland. This statement was released in light of public statements from David Cullinane and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn supporting the ruling.

Since then, Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin has undergone a period of engagement with the party, with numerous opportunities to explain their position, including:

Being questioned by national media about the party facing a ban, including a Late Late Show interview with Mary Lou McDonald

An email being sent to Mary Lou McDonald's office regarding their position

A community engagement meeting with Mary Lou McDonald, David Cullinane, and other LGBTQ+ organisations across the island

A 1:1 discussion meeting with Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin Organiser Jenny Maguire

We engaged in order to seek clarity on their positions on the Supreme Court ruling; whether they would oppose attempts to implement the ruling in Northern Ireland (currently the Supreme Court ruling has no basis in Northern Ireland due to different equality laws; however, there have been attempts to implement the ruling in councils); whether they continue to support the Northern Irish Executive (of which Michelle O'Neill is First Minister) decision to ban puberty blockers; and whether they would support a ban on puberty blockers in the South of Ireland.

After this period of engagement, Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin is not satisfied with the clarity received around their position on the Supreme Court ruling, with the continued defence of the banning of puberty blockers (including not supporting an amendment to reverse the puberty blocker ban in Stormont last Monday), and with the recent Journal article that claimed a conference to discuss its position on trans rights has been pushed …
