It's no secret that we need renewables, but shouldn't we at least make sure the right people are benefitting from them? Right now, big energy corporations are reaping the rewards and our communities are seeing very little economic benefits. 💸 It's time to change that.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚡️

Reform says it wants to take us back to “the country that was”. What a lie. They want to tear up institutions this country helped create, turn our backs on Europe and abandon the international order we helped build. That isn’t patriotism. It’s national vandalism.

Corporate profits just hit a record 13.2% of GDP. Wages simultaneously fell to a record-low 41.1%. This is the political economy of modern capitalism: record profits, a shrinking share for workers, and corporations spending billions on political donations and lobbying to maintain the status quo.

Sad to see Monty leaving #GardenersWorld. Every prog I say 'Hello Monty' at the start and try to time it so his 'hello' sounds like a reply. But it's moved too far upmarket the last few years. I'm old enough to remember Geoff Hamilton, much more down to earth. I hope Frances Tophill takes over.

Today's perspective nudge on 'No 10 North'. Considering the north to south extent of the UK, Manchester is actually not a big distance north of London. It's a hell of a long way from Manchester to Lerwick. I realise that many English commentators will have to look up 'Lerwick'.

Nolan's Odyssey: a BIG plus: he takes Agamemnon / Clytemnestra / Orestes seriously. The prologue to the Odyssey flags that up strongly as a key to the whole; it is thematically (the Telemachiad constantly bounces off the Orestes story to compare contrast). Most commentators miss it: Nolan gets it.

Heartbreakingly, those who believe only those who believe and look like them here on Earth deserve the best also believe that way about heaven.

This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.”
