Well, I guess for Christmas I’m buying myself an analog light meter as a backup for the digital one I bought for my birthday (I like having an heir and a spare, nothing has happened to my light meter, but it is reliant on batteries and an analog one is not.)

Even in the event of my murder, by individuals or otherwise, don't have an "AI" me talk about my cut-short life. Do like Mamie Till & have a grisly open casket. Lay my body on the steps of the Capitol. Whatever. However i die, just put videos, pictures, stories somewhere and SHARE with each other.

I'll say again what i said in 2021 after the Bourdain roadrunner debacle, and again in 2023 after the Édith Piaf biopic fuckup: this shit is morally Sus, and we need to have been getting our shit in order about it for years now.

It’s more than an insult it seems to me a profound violation of personhood. Just because someone is dead doesn’t mean we get to prop their likeness up to perform labor for us. The dead deserve better from us.

The push to use it has become increasingly heavy handed. At first, it was like, you can do cool things with it, try it! Now it’s more like either you should use it or you have to use it and you can’t opt out.

The mainstream conventional wisdom in both cases is that people who are anti-AI or pro trans marginalized themselves by being too far outside the mainstream. My alternative hypothesis is that both trans activists (particularly mainstream adjacent orgs) and anti-AI people were too easy to ignore.

I'm increasingly frustrated that people who are anti-AI aren't being taken seriously, and taking a page out of my thoughts on why the anti-trans backlash got as far as it did I'm starting to think the anti-AI side isn't extreme enough.

I’m glad more people are pointing this out. I talked about it it a few weeks ago w/ @janus.bsky.social Companies are attempting a sleight of hand where they capture data but argue because of how it’s processed it’s not “recording” and is thus private. They are still surveillance devices!

We can’t just change the definition of ‘recording’
