30 Days Wild - MULTILINGUAL!
June is the month for “30 Days Wild”, an encouragement to do something linked to nature every day. We have put together a special, multilingual 30 Days Wild Challenge. How many can you do? If you speak a language other than English, you can use that language to complete the daily challenges. If you don’t already speak another language, you can use a dictionary or ask your languages teacher to help you complete the challenge. We would love to see your efforts – email us at lostworlds@sheffield.ac.uk, or tag us on Twitter @LostWor_l_ds.

1. Go cloud spotting. Do you know how to say “cloud” in another language? Write it here: _______________________________
What does the cloud look like? Can you say that in another language?

2. See if you can find a daisy. What is a daisy called in different languages? Can you find three different translations?

3. Can you find a puddle to jump into? In English, we say that the sound water makes when you jump into a puddle is “splash”. What is that sound called in another language?

4.What birds can you see? What are they called?
What are they called in another language?

5.Look for shapes in nature. Try to find at least a circle, a triangle, and a square. How do you say these in another language?

I don't always love #duallanguage books, but I can recommend these two in #Spanish & #English: 1. Flotando en la canción de mamá / Floating on Mama's Song (Laura Lacámara, Yuyi Morales) The illustrations are absolutely wonderful! #picturebooks #multilingualism #ESL #EAL #multilinguallearners
The cover of a dual language picture book has the title at the topFloating on Mama's Song / Flotando en la canción de mamá, with the the author's name below, Laura Lacámara, and the text, llustrated by/ilustrado por Yuyi Morales. The cover features a woman holding the hand of a young child floating in the air, while the younger brother floats on the other side. Two pages from inside are covered in a rose pink with blue and yellow colors in an almost tie die pattern on the page. A woman's face is turned up to the sky on the left side, eyes closed, singing, with colors seeming to come from her mouth. The right side shows her hand lifting up towards the sky. The text reads: My mama loves to sing. Her singing was always a happy part of everyday life. But everything changed the day after my seventh birthday. / A mamá le encanta cantar. Su canto siempre ha sido una ocasión de alegría cotidiana en nuestra vida. Pero todo cambió el día después que cumplí siete años.
