‘To ignore Gandhi while writing about Ambedkar is to do Ambedkar a disservice’ - Arundhati Roy This edition has generated inevitable questions regarding political representation, caste, privilege, and power in Indian society. 'Annihilation of Caste' is a breach of peace. #booksky #caste

In 'Fractured Communities', published in book form for the first time, Khalid combines archival rigour with analytical clarity to illuminate the history of Singhbhum’s tribal societies under British rule. 📚 A valuable work of history and a critique of histories written from positions of power. 📚📚

'Shattered Lands' is an utterly gripping history that offers a new understanding of modern South Asia—one that brings to light the continuing legacy of empire. A bold and sweeping history of modern South Asia, told through the five partitions that reshaped it. 📚📚🌍 #booksky #history #SouthAsia

Set in the 1940s, with Partition looming on the horizon, 'The Women's Courtyard' cleverly brings into focus the claustrophobic lives of women whose entire existence was circumscribed by the four walls of their homes, and for whom the outside world remained an inaccessible dream. 📚📚

In 'Capitalism: A Ghost Story' Arundhati Roy examines the dark side of Indian democracy- a nation of 1.2 billion, where the country's 100 richest people own assets worth 25% of India’s gross domestic product. Ferocious and clear-sighted, this is a searing portrait of a nation haunted by ghosts.

'Loving Women' documents the life-stories of ten working-class queer women living in north India. 📚💜 In doing so, it dispels the myth that lesbians in India are all urban, westernized and come from upper and middle classes. 📚📚💜 'Loving Women: Being Lesbian in Underprivileged India' by Maya Sharma

This book offers the first social and intellectual history of Dalit performance of Tamasha—a popular form of public, secular, traveling theater in Maharashtra—and places Dalit Tamasha women who represented the desire and disgust of the patriarchal society at the heart of modernization. #booksky

Two-thirds of today's British Pakistani diaspora trace their origins back to Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, a district that saw mass displacement and migration when it was submerged by the waters of a dam built after Partition. Sabba Khan's debut graphic memoir explores identity, belonging and memory. 📚💜

Trauma, particularly that of women, has typically been relegated to silence and oblivion 'Sing, Slivered Tongue' is a collection of poetry by women from South Asia writing on trauma. The title refers to the ancient legend of Khona, a wise woman whose tongue was severed by her envious father-in-law.

Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976) is widely remembered as the fiery iconoclast who fought against the structures of oppression and orthodoxy. 📚 The iconic ‘rebel poet’ of Bengal, Nazrul continues to be loved for his songs and poetry. But what of his prose, his journalism, and his politics? 📚💙 #booksky
