MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 04/09/2026I literally listened to this podcast while driving my electric golf cart (converted to LSV) to work with my dog. 😅🐶 I'm starting to see more and more of them in North Park, San Diego especially among the 30-somethings. They're just so cheap to maintain, insure, "fuel", and just SO DAMN FUN. 020
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 25/08/2026"- Do not bicycle-transport small children on streets and roads." So in this country with limited off-street facilities that means basically don't use bikes for families. What if you cannot *own a car* and *public transport is too inconvenient or limited*. Just be rich, I guess? Great advice. 010
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 22/08/2026So I did the deed and got a golf cart (for many, many reasons). And honestly, it's one of the coolest little transportation devices around. The way drivers treat & respect a 25 mph speed-limited golf cart vs a 25 mph speed-limited eBike is mind-blowing. 2616
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 22/08/2026Well that‘s a thought. I’ve only seen FHWA guidance on this for BL on 2 lane hwys (mostly for) rural areas. First thing that come to mind in urban contexts is maintenance but, lol—see flex posts. I’ll do some research and ask around. 020
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Thus, if the roadway conditions are ok enough (low volume, speed, etc) they might go for the buffered option over protected. An option to increase visibility along parking protected bike lanes is to remove parking near conflict points. (Not condoning the choice either way-just giving you the logic). 120
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 21/08/2026It usually is over visibility concerns. On roadways with a lot of driveways a parking-protected bike lane can reduce visibility in a couple scenarios: people driving may not see people biking and turn into them & likewise anyone pulling out of the driveway has challenges turning into traffic. 110

MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 12/05/2026Exactly — people driving *too fast* lose control and hit trees and guardrails at *lethal speeds*. You just made my point: TOTAL speed kills, not just differential speed. (Nobody said anything about purposefully driving into trees. We all make mistakes, and it happens all the time.) 220
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Literally and resoundingly: YES THEY DO! We call them "fixed object crashes" in the biz and are usually responsible for a significant number of fatalities. That's before considering "second harmful events" where a car-to-car crash redirects to a guardrail, tree, or pedestrian! 030
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Total speed always matters as it represents how much kinetic energy each vehicle brings to the crash. The more kinetic energy the greater potential for fatality. Sure in some nice organized universe where cars only hit cars the difference in speed sounds sane until you study how cars actually crash. 010
MTBorq @mtborq.bsky.social · 11/05/2026It's only the difference in speed between drivers that matters. Tree: 0 mph Car: 65 mph Oh... wait... 100
