San Diego is not expendable. Our lives are not bargaining chips. The President’s words were reckless, dangerous, and a betrayal of the people he swore to protect. I love this city, and I will never stay quiet when someone treats our families, neighbors, and communities like they are disposable.
Tonight, the President of the United States stood on a stage and told a cheering crowd, “Let them take out San Diego.” He went on to call the destruction of our city “a very small price to pay.”

San Diego is home to 1.4 million people. We are workers, families, children, veterans, immigrants, sailors, Marines, and people who love this city and call it home. We are not expendable. Los Angeles is not expendable. No American city is.

For a President to speak so casually about an attack on the people he is sworn to protect is reckless, dangerous, and treasonous. At a time when American servicemembers and their families are already bearing the consequences of his war with Iran, San Diegans deserve a President focused on keeping them safe, not talking about sacrificing them.

Every elected leader in San Diego, regardless of party, should condemn these comments without qualification. There should be nothing partisan about standing up for our city and the people who live here.

Our lives are not bargaining chips.

Donald, keep our name out of your mouth.

San Diegans have raised serious concerns about automated license plate readers for years. Today, PANA and the ACLU announced a lawsuit challenging San Diego’s program. Here’s my response:
For years, San Diegans asked our city to respect our privacy and not let a private company record our every movement. The mayor and a majority of the council ignored us.

For years, San Diegans asked the city to invest in community instead of spending millions on creepy surveillance. The mayor and a majority of the council ignored us.Across the country and here at home, those concerns have been proven right — improper data sharing, misuse of the technology, and false arrests.

Last Thanksgiving, a San Diego man spent nearly a month in jail after police relied on a Flock hit that put the wrong car at a crime scene five miles away.

Now, the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, represented by the ACLU, is suing the city, arguing its Flock program violates the California Constitution.

More than 200 cities have ended their contracts with Flock and similar companies this year. San Diego should follow their lead: cancel the contract and Get the Flock Out of San Diego.” Get the Flock Out of San Diego

This is not an anti-technology resolution. It’s not an anti-innovation resolution. This is about people. As autonomous vehicles expand in San Diego we demanded greater accountability and consideration for workers, first responders, and everyone who uses our streets.

This 4th of July, I’m reflecting on the generations of people who fought to make “We the People” mean all of us. Freedom isn’t something we inherit. It’s something we defend. That means protecting our democracy and building a country where liberty and justice truly belong to everyone.

✅ The Follow the Money Ordinance is advancing. Today, Rules Committee voted unanimously to move the policy to full City Council for consideration. San Diegans deserve to know who is spending money to influence City Hall decisions before those decisions are made. Next Stop ➡️ Full City Council

This San Diego renter paid $150 in application fees only to discover that one of the apartments they applied for wasn’t actually available...and then came hidden fees. For too many families, the advertised rent isn’t the real cost of housing.
Slide 1 of 3 in the “What Junk Fees Have Cost Me” series. A rental application form is shown in the background with a yellow sticky note pinned on top. Large text reads: “$150 in application fees and only ONE apartment was actually available.” The graphic introduces a real story from a San Diego renter about paying multiple application fees for housing.Slide 2 of 3. A yellow note pinned to a rental application form contains a quote from a San Diego renter. The renter says their family paid $75 application fees for two listings with the same property manager, later learned only one apartment was actually available, and then faced hidden trash fees after moving in. The quote concludes: “Housing is expensive enough without surprise costs and fine print.” The graphic invites viewers to share their stories at mysandiego.info/story.Slide 3 of 3. A yellow note pinned to a rental application form reads “Take Action.” The graphic encourages viewers to share their story at mysandiego.info/story, attend the City Council hearing on June 30 at 2:00 PM, and show support for efforts to address hidden rental fees by visiting mysandiego.info/junkfee.

⚠️ Hidden rental fees are costing San Diegans hundreds of dollars every year. Application fees. Processing fees. Surprise charges. Fees added AFTER signing a lease. Renters deserve to know the true cost of housing BEFORE they sign. Learn more about the proposed Junk Fees Ordinance👇🏽
Graphic 1 (Cover Graphic)

Red and white graphic styled like a protest sign. Large text reads: “Attention: San Diego Renters. What Are Rental Junk Fees?” The graphic introduces a campaign to educate renters about hidden housing costs. A footer directs viewers to mysandiego.info/junkfee for more information.Graphic 2 (The Problem)

Red informational graphic explaining that many San Diego renters face hidden “junk fees” on top of high rent. Examples include processing fees, surprise charges, duplicate application fees, and misleading rental ads. The graphic states that these extra costs make housing less affordable and harder to plan for.Graphic 3 (The Solution)

Informational graphic describing the proposed Residential Rental Price Gouging, Fee Exploitation, and Cost Transparency Ordinance. The policy would cap rental fees at 5% of rent, require landlords to disclose fees upfront, ban fees for basic services, limit excessive late fees, and prevent surprise charges after signing a lease.Graphic 4 (What Does This Mean?)

Graphic explaining how the proposed ordinance would help renters by reducing hidden fees, improving price transparency, helping households better budget for housing costs, and providing more stability and predictability in the rental process. Viewers are encouraged to share their stories at mysandiego.info/story.
