Turns out we don’t have to invoke weapons of mass destruction when talking about ocean heat uptake. The ocean absorbed a record-breaking 23 zettajoules of heat last year, equivalent to 40 times the energy used by humanity. It’s not going to end well.

This isn’t a routine extension. It’s the largest coal mine expansion proposed in NSW. Approving 429 million tonnes of coal well into the 2040s is completely incompatible with climate action. If Labor has any shred of climate integrity left, it must reject this project.
