Paddling (canoeing) across Windermere today, into the teeth of a pretty stiff Force 3 wind - lumpy, and just this side of whitecaps - I came across a swimming squirrel, looking very stressed. Not a planned swim, I'm guessing. It was 300m to either shore, so I'm not sure s/he was going to be okay.

I’m sorting kitchen cupboards. It’s the final one. The one I avoid because it has the pong. I’m going in. I have removed my sweater and have a variety of sanitisers at the ready. Also a dehumidifier and a fan heater the gas board gave me last year during the carbon monoxide business.

Ikea restaurant yesterday. I spend so much time in solitude and nature that Ikea is my place of joy if I need “escape”- remembering the day Tiny Newman and I were there late and she said if only we had brought our PJs we could have stayed here and hidden from school and work for a while :) ..

The tiny dog I’m very grateful to. She stood up and wagged her tail at ten pm and invited me to take her out which means we don’t have to get up for quite a while yet. It sounds damp and cold out there. I dreamed I was permanently in charge of a Bebe. It’s been a long night.

Tiny Ted and I came upstairs at six as I lit the stove at half two and it was very hot and stuffy downstairs. We went to the garden before coming up. I invited TT to go out again just now before changing into my PJs but she has declined. I think it must be Autumn.

A small papillon prefers to stay tucked up rather than go out for last ablutions. She is pictured against her various fleece blankets and appears to be talking back.

Metro off yesterday so took to the buses instead with Bebe to get to play cafe in town. Very different experience. Tension and unrest over who had priority over the accessible spaces (it didn’t include us) with vicious verbal sparring between passengers. It was hostile and horrible. Bebe …

I love baking but if I know I’m going to struggle a bit with “can I be bothered” I set everything out the night before … the off putting bit is always the taking about for the little boxes and jars. Getting started on a Saturday or Sunday morning is then easy and the thought of Bebe face when ..

I should add, I cleaned the windows because a pigeon crash landed into my bedroom one yesterday. Or the day before. Leaving a large stain. Pigeon flew off and seemed ok. Maybe covered in “logger sh*te” like my windows - the stain they left was more of a clean patch. Windows are now pristine.

Contemplated putting heating on but once I’d been out to the garden with Tiny Ted it was delightfully sunny out there and in my fleece it’s warm in here again. I was drying washing in the kitchen yesterday with a heated dryer and laundry setting on the dehumidifier and it seems to have heated us

Couldn’t get my head round why the supermarkets here are all running out of Greek Yoghurt. Tiny Newman told me it’s because of a tik tok advocating poking biscuits into pots of the stuff to make something. Still couldn’t grasp it so they showed me a video of a big yogurt pot. I’ve always fancied Goat Yoga. I watch it on videos instead. Then yesterday Bebe watched me do my exercises for my back (all fours ) when I thought she was “busy”. She dived on top of me with great gusto and suddenly it was Goat Yoga with a difference… she may also be heavier than a goat kid ??

The most gorgeous baby squirrel in the park yesterday. Another woman appeared with it wrapped round her leg and it was soon climbing my leg. Hm. Not my favourite thing. It was so tiny. She had spoken to someone in charge and was told its mother is nearby and we shouldn’t worry. I’m worried.

I have switched my early coffee for a concoction of boiled up citrus fruits and Manuka honey with some cheap runny honey thrown in. No alcohol as I might have to drive. In other news I hardly whinged about the cold at all for two days while racing about after the Bebe. No time.

"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."
