I think sizes increased when microwaves became a more usual thing to find in people's homes (so you could have a larger mug and reheat as needed), also the individual instant packets of things weren't ubiquitous. If you made a pot of hot chocolate, you'd just reheat the pot/refill your little mug.

Sure. I've used this one before, really like it. Lana Grossa Meilenweit, Seta Fiore. The colors are actually a bit more muted than they appear in the photo :)

There’s something so damned satisfying about completing this part of a sock. Not the heel turn, the gusset decreases. 🧶
Partially completed sock on knitting needles, closeup of heel/gusset. Variegated yarn of peach, gold, gray and plum

I was laid up with my back for a week and a half, eating pretty much all crap, so today, ok enough to make dinner, I wanted healthy. Yeah yeah, the breadsticks aren’t exactly healthy but I need carbs.
Red, yellow, and orange stuffed peppers in a glass casserole dish, each topped with fresh mozz ball and fresh parsleyGarlic basil soft breadsticks totally uneven (hey, presentation is not my thing), gold brown just out of oven on baking sheets

Definitely, it comes down to which mss they believe rep their readership/and or will therefore earn $. which is kind of a scary thought in a larger sense, that AI flatness is what they think readers want/will relate to. Also, ahh, thank you! 💜

I dunno, every time I see a story like this (pub house, agent, zine) my unagented, uncontracted writer's mind says wow, my words must really suck.

I know many readers want a likable protagonist, but imo interesting is > likable. Can be both, obv, but if I have to pick one, I'm going with interesting.

As someone who is very deeply into preservation and archival work of media, this ain't it. It is one thing to have back-ups of media that is no longer easily purchased or long out of print but these are recently published, actively sold works that are directly tied to the writers and artists' income

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

I've been recommending this one to EVERYONE since I read it, maybe 8 years now? This is one that imo should have immediately been added to the list of must-read dystopians.

I have been trying and failing to recreate the pastelitos de guayaba Husband’s godmother used to make. These things were divine, and the recipe died with her. The pastry was a cross btw pie crust, cookie, & shortbread 😭
8 mini pastry cups on white dish, 4 filled with guava, 4 filled with cheesecake (ish)

Where you'll see a rare bird. Thanks to @ryanfm.bsky.social's newsletter for teaching me about the Cabanis's ground-sparrow that lives behind the walmart
An 8 panel comic. The first three panels are labeled "Where you think you'll see a rare bird." Panel 1 is labeled "Lush forest" and shows a beautiful rich forest with tall conifers, a waterfall, and mountains. Panel 2 is labeled "Perfect sunlit branch" and shows a branch rising above the trees, shaped like a great bird perch. Panel 3 is labeled "Area near an informational plaque about a rare bird" and shows a forest with a sign in front displaying an image of a Spruce Grouse and informational text. The next set of images are labeled "Where you'll actually see a rare bird". They include "Tree behind a Walmart", with Cabanis's ground-sparrow singing in a tree, "Skating rink parking lot" with a Lewis's woodpecker climbing a palm, "Spooky cemetery" with a Vermillion Flycatcher standing on a gravestone in a foggy spooky cemetery, "Sewage treatment plant" with a tufted duck gliding through the water, "Flying over your car" with a golden eagle sailing above a red car that's driving down the highway, and "Text from Uncle Ron" with a text exchange in which Ron says "Weird bird landed in my yard" and sends a picture of a whooping crane, to which you reply "Wow! Is it still there???" and he says "no".

It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that
almost amounted to agony, I collected the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark of
being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. It was already one in the morning; the rain pattered
dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-
extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive
