Engineer, pilot & European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot is the first French woman to conduct a spacewalk, 47 days ago. #WorldSpaceWeek 🚀 The lead astronaut for the ESA Epsilon mission, which launched to the ISS in Feb 2026 & is scheduled to return to Earth this week. #WomenInSTEM #France
Split-image composition with two distinct photographs showcasing French engineer, military pilot, and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot (born 1982), the first French woman to conduct a spacewalk. The image highlights her historic role in modern space exploration during the 2026 Epsilon mission. In the top photograph, a formal studio portrait frames Adenot from the chest up against a deep blue background. She looks directly into the camera with a bright, welcoming smile. She wears a bulky white Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit, which features a circular European Space Agency (ESA) patch on the center console and a prominent French tricolor flag patch on her left shoulder. The French national flag is also visible on the far left of the frame. The bottom photograph captures a candid, action-oriented moment inside the International Space Station's Cupola module. Adenot is positioned horizontally in the microgravity environment, her long brown hair floating upward toward the station ceiling. Smiling enthusiastically, she holds a large professional camera equipped with a long telephoto lens up to her eye, pointing it out through one of the large windows. The curved pane of the window reveals a spectacular, bright view of the Earth's blue surface and swirling white clouds against the blackness of space. The background is filled with the intricate mechanical interior of the station, including brackets, labels, switches, and support gear.

Physical chemist Ruth Benerito died #OTD in 2013. She pioneered a key chemical process, cross-linking, which led to wrinkle-resistant cotton fabrics. It transformed the cotton industry & helped save it from competition w/synthetic fibers. #WomenInSTEM She held >50 patents. #inventor
Color photograph of scientist Ruth Benerito in a chemistry laboratory. She is an older woman with curly white hair, wearing large round gold-framed glasses, subtle makeup, small black earrings, a silver ring, and a light blue lab coat over a collared shirt. She sits or stands thoughtfully with her chin resting on her hand, gazing slightly off-camera with a serious, contemplative expression. Behind and beside her is complex scientific glassware apparatus, including a round-bottom flask labeled "BUCHI PLASTIC-GLAS," green-tinted tubing, a distillation setup with clamps, connectors, and other lab equipment mounted on stands. The background shows more blurred lab instrumentation, evoking a professional research environment at the USDA Southern Regional Research Center where she conducted her groundbreaking work on cotton chemistry.

Slander is spoken; libel is written. But this isn't either of those. It's detailed reporting from a respected outlet with damning evidence. And "most consequential Commerce Secretary in modern history" is as impressive as "shortest NBA player from Luxembourg"
Speaking on behalf of Lutnick, the White House said: "The BBC's pathetic and desperate attempt to slander Secretary Lutnick will do nothing to change the fact that he has been the most consequential Commerce Secretary in modern history."

#ResistanceRoots Henrietta Lacks died on this day in 1951 in Baltimore, Md. She only became well-known for what she contributed after her death. However, she deserves to be remembered as a beautiful young mother who was much more than her immortalized human cell line used in medical research. /1
Henrietta Lacks, ca. late 1940s. Lacks is the unwitting mother of modern medical research whose exploitation forced the world to reinvent medical ethics. As the source of the HeLa cell line, she unknowingly gave humanity its first “immortal” human cells, enabling medical advances that have touched millions of lives worldwide. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is the stark reality of paternalistic, Jim Crow-era medicine, where a poor Black woman’s body could be harvested without her knowledge or informed consent. For decades, Henrietta was reduced to an anonymous laboratory code. Today, her descendants, artists and global communities have fought to ensure she is remembered as a person. Her final resting place is marked with a granite headstone honoring her not just as a medical miracle, but as a mother who loved to cook, wear bright red lipstick, and take care of her family.
