Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 12hBeen a while, I’ve almost forgotten how to set this stuff up 🫣😂 020
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Found dead in my trap from the other night. Thought it was a Hawthorn Drab (Paraswammerdamia nebulella) but might it be a White-headed Drab (P. albicapitella)? Seems a little late though? Possibly it could be an old corpse I missed, but I do empty the trap after each session. #teammoth 180
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 23/11 (and 200+ Common Wasps…). Apart from the prospect of being stung, no real standouts. That said I’ve not had a dark form BoxTree Moth before, and the Bishop’s Mitre Shield Bug is a new one for the garden. #teammoth 1140
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Melplash, Dorset. Being near the end of our holiday I decided not to bother trapping last night. Felt a twinge of regret this morning until I glanced out of the window. My first Convolvulus Hawkmoth plain as day roosting on the parasol! 🤓 #teammoth 2311
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Thousands of solitary bees on the red marl cliffs to the west of Seaton, Devon. No idea which species. 021
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Melplash, Dorset 5/5 in the battery powered Safari trap. Lowest catch yet this holiday. Always a silver lining though. New lifer: Dark Spectacle 😁 #teammoth 0210
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Melplash, Dorset, 11/7 Poor showing, but it did feel quite chilly. Although numbers were low, one was a lifer: Brindled Green. Also had my second trap hornet which was surprisingly chilled 😎 #teammoth 1261
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Been spooking so many Vestals on our Dorset walks. I’d not seen one until this year now they’re popping out of the vegetation most places I go it seems. #teammoth 0120
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I got me a wooden boaty kit, the Mary Rose, for Christmas. Now experiencing both excitement and fear. Too complex? Oh gawd yes, but I enjoy jumping into projects knowing I’ll be seriously challenged. I haven’t time to do a practice piece, I might die before I finish it then I’d be proper salty! 😂 020
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 16/09/2026A wonderful 3 mile walk from the cottage up to South Warren Hill was marred by the footpath down to the road being thoroughly overgrown. Too far to turn back so I had at it and cleared about 300 yards of nettles and brambles with me walking stick! Hedgerow samurai! I’m 68 you know…😂🤣😂🤣 2131
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 14/09/2026For the first time on a holiday I’ve deployed our Bushnell trail cam. There’s a brook feeding the small holding’s ponds along which our host suspects otters might travel to visit. Fingers crossed 🤞. After 3 or 4 days I’ll move them a bit downstream to the confluence of two brooks. 010
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Had this fabulous looking caddis as trap bycatch last night in Melplash: Odontocerum albicorne. #teammoth 090
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Melplash, Dorset. 27/15 last night to Safari battery trap. A couple of lifers: Brussel’s Lace and potentially Coleophora versurella if anyone here can confirm it from my pics? 😉 Otherwise usual fare along with a Small Mottled Willow and a couple of Rush Veneers. #teammoth 0150
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 13/09/2026We’re in Dorset now and this is a new one on me: Willow Emerald Damselfly near one of the small holdings ponds. Been colonising UK since 2009 apparently. 011
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 10/09/2026East Harting, W. Sussex. 35/22. A busier Safari trap last night included a very pissed off hornet 🙄 Fortunately it calmed down later. A couple of lifers: Pediasia contaminella (and I think it might be right this time…😬🤞) and Pyrausta purpuralis. Nice to see a couple of Vestals too. #teammoth 0150
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 08/09/2026East Harting, West Sussex. 17/8 I ran the Safari trap for 2 hours. A much colder night. Included were 6 Feathered Gothic as well as the Scarce Bordered Straw which was a first for me 😁 The rest: Square-spot Rustic, Centre-barred Sallow, LYU, LBAM, Willow Beauty, Double-striped Pug. #teammoth 0170
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 08/09/2026What do you reckon for this please? #teammoth Safari battery trap South Harting, West Sussex. 4151
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Another lifer from tonight in West Sussex, the Delicate. #teammoth 0160
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Petersfield, WestSussex 23/16 Ran Safari trap from 8:45 to 10:30ish. Mostly old friends with the exception of a couple of lifers if ID is OK: Fern and Pediasia contaminella. I’ve no books with me so if anyone thinks these are wrong please shout up. If it is a Fern it seems a little late. #teammoth 290
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Glowing gently near Petersfield, West Sussex. It’s looking rather clear but hey. #teammoth 1120
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 30/08/2026You know, I should put the traps out but I’m going through an incoming ‘can’t be arsed’ phase. If I can trap twice a month atm I’ll be content 😌 #teammoth 180
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Current state of my ‘lawn’ 😂 Rampant Devil’s Bit Scabious 😁 130
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Wolverhampton SJ90 116/30 Annoyed that I missed couple of tiny dark micros but pleased to have a couple of lifers if they’re sound: Catoptria falsella (Chequered Grass-moth) and possible Aproaerema anthyllidella (Vetch Moth). Also my second Spodoptera exigua (Small Mottled Willow). #teammoth 0180
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/08/2026This morning’s trap was crawling with jeopardy… Kept accidentally sticking my fingers amongst them. Glad it was only 10C. Amyl acetate works very well for wasps 🙄 #teammoth 2140
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 08/08/2026This Knothorn is from last night’s trap. The aluminium sheet in the photo is 2mm thick and I estimate the moth to be around 21mm long head to wing tip. With Spear Thistle in my garden I’m leaning towards Phycitodes binaevella (Spotted Knot-horn) but ObsID reckons P. maritima. Thoughts? #teammoth 2160
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 73/37 A far better trap than I expected as it dropped to 8C here last night. And as a bonus it contained a Poplar Hawk-moth along with two lifers: 1) Triangle Plume 2) Pebble Hook-tip Pleased with those! 😁 #teammoth 0150
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 06/08/2026From my last trap I originally clocked this as a micro. Instead apparently it’s a dustywing, Coniopterygidae; new one for me and so small. Well, fancy that 😁 #teammoth 3200
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 28/07/2026A fresh Southern Hawker in the garden, almost certainly from our pond. Beautiful. 052
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/07/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 103/38 A quieter trap last night, easier to sort. Amongst the trapped were a couple of lifers, a Least Yellow Underwing and a Tree-lichen Beauty for which it looks like there’re only 3 other records in Staffordshire 😁 Of course, maybe it isn’t one… what do you reckon #teammoth 4280
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. Zelleria hepariella (Ash Spinner) to my TIP lure trap between 18:00 and 20:00. Looks like there are only around half a dozen Staffs records, including one from you Steve T 😉 #teammoth 2130
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 17/07/2026After finding a solitary dead Cinnabar moth on one of our ragworts I wasn’t hopeful I’d find larvae, but here we are. I’ve counted only four so far varying in size from tiny to the one in the pic. #teammoth 050
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 12/07/2026What appears to be a worn Codling moth to the Hornet Moth lure around 14:00. Possibly it just accidentally found its way into the trap irrespective of the lure. #teammoth 080
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Three Clearwing lures out this afternoon. 1 Red-tipped to TAB. 1 Red-tipped to Six Belt. 2 Yellow-legged to VES. #teammoth 2180
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Just accidentally bought this Revell Klingon D7 from 2011. I say accidentally because I was actually looking for this year’s 60th anniversary rerelease and spotted this. Identical kit minus the branding, dodgy paints and higher price. Chuffed. Those panel lines are going to have to go though 😂 140
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 09/07/2026With my appalling night vision last night I completely mistook this striking (and tiny) Cherry Leafhopper for Lyonetia clerkella - which also wound up in my trap. #teammoth 0170
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 194/62 A hot and flighty trap, gord knows what I’ve missed. I have a couple on which I would appreciate an opinion. 1) Double Dart or not? It is worn. 2) Bucculatrix… uhm? So tiny I almost missed it and these blurs are my only photos. Thanks 😁 #teammoth 1100
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Loving our garden atm. Still, it’s a shame that most butterflies I see are singletons, but at least they’re getting the benefit of the blooms. And while thinning out vegetation in the pond I found around 8 dragonfly cast exuviae. Probably Southern Hawkers as per previous years. 060
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 07/07/2026So Sainsbury’s has swapped to all white eggs. Fair enough, they don’t taste any different whatever their colour BUT it seems their shells are more fragile. I usually buy a dozen eggs per week for plain boiled. Since the change from brown to white this consistently happens to about a third of them 😡 111
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 05/07/2026This just popped into my Facebook feed 😁 #teammoth 020
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 04/07/2026It only struck me today that I’ve never before listed the butterflies recorded in my Wolverhampton suburban garden. I would have estimated about 10 species but it’s actually 19 which was a pleasant surprise 😁 Some, like the Green Hairstreak, are single records but still. 1121
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 02/07/2026#teammoth can anyone suggest IDs for this pair of Minors please? Ignore the central purple halo on the darker of the two, it’s an unavoidable (and annoying) artefact courtesy of my wee Olympus Tough TG-5. Seems to randomly happen at some zoom and light levels. 1120
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 01/07/2026New butterfly for the garden: Large Skipper 😁 I’ve only lived here for 64 years… #teammoth 0110
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. Just trawled through photos from the other night’s trap and added three more species, including two more lifers: 1) Teleiodes vulgella 2) Clouded Silver - a very flighty escapee which I had to chase into a camellia bush before snatching just one photo. 080
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Wolverhampton SJ90 A pair of Red-tipped Clearwings. One to TAB and one to the Six Belt lure around 18:00 this evening. #teammoth 0150
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Sad day. Our neighbours opposite are having the last oak tree round here felled 😡 No one seems to appreciate trees in their gardens anymore. When I moved here in 62/63 virtually all gardens had at least 4 apple trees and a handful of shrubs. Today I’m surrounded by a lawn desert 😔 #teammoth 8191
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Anybody able to suggest an ID for this micro please? I was leaning towards worn Hawthorn Moth, but I’m really not sure. Thanks. #teammoth 040
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 296/65(ish) - maybe a couple more to add. Many escaped but I still had 2 lifers: 1) Short-cloaked moth 2) Achroia grisella (Lesser Wax Moth). If ID correct it looks to be less common in Staffs. #teammoth 0170
Ade Turner @adesturner.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Wolverhampton SJ90. 14 Red-belted Clearwings to their lure around 14:45. Most I’ve ever had in one pot. #teammoth 1221
