People down that particular rabbit warren long ago lost sight of the daylight. It doesn’t excuse the lack of action to prevent it - nothing could. It’s simply that, in comparison to the thousands of previous offences from him, this may not even be the worst.

With Nobel Prize season in full swing, it's a great time to learn about the first woman to win the Economics Nobel, Elinor Ostrom. She was awarded the prize in 2009, along with Oliver Williamson for their contributions to "economic governance" - of corporations (OW) and the commons (EO). 👇

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

There isn’t a net zero 2030 target. There’s a net zero 2050 target and a clean power by 2030 target. These are different things and if you’re going to attack climate policies in the ‘paper of record’ it’s kind of important to get the details right. www.thetimes.com/article/3c9a...

I don't have a horse in this race; I couldn't vote for the party even if I wanted to. But I find it tiresome that the left panics when its parties make errors, out of all proportion to how mistakes on the right are treated. Yes, the mainstream media will be savage, but there's no need to bolster it.

I realise why there's a lot of upset about the English Greens' decision to pass its motion on Zionism yesterday. I think it was a mistake, but here's the thing: it was _a_ mistake, and in light of how other parties are screwing up, I think we need to keep things in proportion. Bear with me on this.

Scrapping the Future Homes Standard will deliver cost reductions for developers, but it’s hugely unlikely they’d be passed on to buyers and those buyers would be left with homes that cost thousands of pounds a year more to run.

Again, on my hobby horse: the British Empire was a single polity that fed wealth back to "Britain" but that didn't make those subject to British rule "British" either legally or culturally. The Empire predates that understanding of nationhood.

Here is the thing, right, here is the thing (this is me getting a run up): the concept of the modern nation state and citizenship thereof is a relatively recent cultural phenomenon and we actually don't have great terms to conceptualise it as distinct from what we used to mean by "nationality".
