How interesting that Meta called @wired.com "dishonest" and then (quietly) removed the face-recognition system it had previously (also quietly) integrated into an app downloaded onto 50 million phones. Dishonest!

Meta Deletes Face-Recognition System From Its Smart Glasses App After WIRED Report
The code WIRED identified is gone from the latest version of Meta AI, the companion app for the company’s smart glasses. Meta won’t say why or whether it’s coming back.

Duh is right. It's comparable to using software (open source or otherwise) that isn't indemnified or supported by a vendor. Support means you GET HELP in a certain number of minutes / hours and the vendor fixes bugs and CVE's by contract. So no. Saaspocalypse is bunk.

Absolutely works in orgs with foresight to bias an LLM towards motivational lessons found in Daniel Pink's book Drive. Yes. This is sarcasm.

Sure, most YAML deploys are versioned with "beta," but 1.0 is what we want. We aren't given a choice. I agree the word graduated has nothing to do with maturity. It's not a quality gate. Also agree that it's what Derek signed up for. Guess I've got more understanding than Internet is offering.

Matt Reider @mreider.bsky.social · 07/05/2025
A non-graduating CNCF project might remain in sandbox / incubation limbo, without the nod of maturity graduated projects get. It's possible founders donate projects without fully understanding how the criteria is met. Their fault. But after years of toil it's understandable why they'd want it back.

NATS faced a CNCF catch-22: no graduation with 97% vendor commits. But hunting for volunteers on a niche project isn't viable. IMHO, projects like these need realistic exit paths when community interest doesn't materialize after donation, rather than staying in permanent limbo.

Also, to them, and their "humans as chess pieces" think tanks, abortion is not a religious issue. It's just math. The more mouths to feed, the less time and energy we have to stand up for ourselves. The religious bit is election theatre.

Downloading copyrighted e-books is incredibly easy these days. There's definitely a connection between the apparent legitimization of these sites and the fact that they're a key part of how LLM's are trained.

We need to save some smoke for voters. Trump was very clear during the campaign that he planned to settle Russia's war on Ukraine quickly and on Putin's terms. 77 million people voted for him anyway, and now he's following through. American voters sold out our ally.

Yes and No. The idea is not so much to weaken Europe, but to weaken liberal democracies, which happen to be stronger in Europe than anywhere else. If you're confused about why powerful people aim to destroy liberal democracies I have a few books in mind.
