I haven’t done a single bit of work for most of the half term break. I had loads of family time, caught up with friends, pottered through some of our favourite towns (and associated shops), ate too much, decorated, had a brew or two with my grandad, and generally recharged. 1/3

One of the most challenging elements of leadership for me so far is staffing (ensuring cover is in place for training, appointments, absences, etc.). It’s just so complex, especially at pinch points whereby you’re dealing with several issues at once. What do other senior leaders feel?

Day 1 of being a Deputy Head Teacher. 🧠 Inset training. 🥞🥐🍞 Organised welcome breakfast for teachers. ✍️ Delivered a session on handwriting. 🧘🏼‍♂️Everything felt really positive and everyone seemed really chilled. 📸 My lanyard came and with a much nicer portrait (vain, I know). Today was a good day. ❤️

We put a new twist on this commonly found classroom feature today. Instead of linking the children to their home countries, I asked them to choose somewhere they wanted to visit. They’ll be asked to research their destinations this term ❤️🗺️ #lovegeography #primary #ks2 #displays

The library of dreams is in full swing now! 😍 I am hoping we’ll have books on those shelves in the next day or two. Glossing and ceiling to go. 🙌🏻 Oh and yes, that is a make shift kitchen in the background - the height of interior design as you can see. 🤣

Given to me a decade ago, these handmade gifts are total treasures. The flowers from a girl who was probably the most talented writers I have ever taught (she was 7 years old!!). The plate from a boy who LOVED coaches and, at 6 years old, could tell me the difference between a coach and a bus.

I am English Lead at a high-performing infant school & I’m keen to upgrade our library offer to a large proportion of our Y2 children who are reading well beyond their age-related expectations (several will start the year on Lime). 10 years ago, I ran a competition with my Y3 class to design a ‘positive postcard’ for me to use when sending notes home to children’s parents. I wonder if Claudia and Flynn (who will now be 17 years old) ever thought I’d still be using them a decade later. I even have the original artwork. 🥰

I’m working on handwriting at the moment, developing what lessons look like to ensure they are developing gross & fine motor skills, along pencil grip, posture & formation. We’re using Letter-join as a loose base, but I want some intervention ideas for common problems. Is there anything out there?
