this literally was my guide to life in the analog generation when newspapers were the map to experiencing cinema: god i miss the ann arbor news (i had a paper route!), and wonder - WHAT MOVIE WOULD YOU PICK?

All I remember was that it was vaguely boring but I loved the music and was obsessed with Diane Lane’s rocker chic look. And yup still feel the same. I wonder how many “dark gritty comic book type shows” were influenced by this aesthetic…

This is an absolutely wonderful recap of Star Trek III and its place in 1980s summer cinema. It totally gives the lie to the myth of the bad odd-numbered Star Trek movie. Only one nitpick: The ending would be *way* longer than it already is if we had to watch them climb the steps.

Great episode and I think SoF DOES pass the Bechdel test?? Ellen Aim and Babydoll have a conversation about songwriting??? Not sure it entirely counts bc Aim mentions Fish. Wild if true

I have a brief (email) cameo in this ep! Mentioning this gives me a chance to point out: Amrish Puri, who plays Mola Ram in Temple of Doom, a famous Hollywood series... ALSO has a big role in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (a.k.a. DDLJ), possible THE most famous Bollywood movie!

Hilarious and deeply insightful writing by @brianphillips.lol.

Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.
