We report: walking away from the city and into the countryside, the streetlights are spread further and further apart. We see glowing eyes in the bushes, and the trees are dark, loom high over our heads. We overestimated the time we had before nightfall. It smells like rain.

We report: the moon rose as it was already getting dark, and it was drizzling. It was only by chance that we saw it glowing through the clouds, and decided to wait until the wind pushed them away. It was a full moon yesterday, but as usual, it seemed equally full tonight.

We report: the light is alive in the clouds at dawn, flowing through the veins created by the few gaps. It keeps transforming in the minutes we get to watch it. It loses the pink, and it gets weaker when it turns blue instead. Our expert, for once, decides to go back to sleep.

We report: the humidity of this evening has bloomed into bright colours, so that even our tired eyes cannot help but awaken in the light. We feel cold, but we can tell this is more on us than the light breeze. Later on, we watch the sun slide off each layer of clouds, one by one.

We report: there are flocks of birds in the sky at nightfall again. The days are still warm, but they are getting short, enough that we have to look out for the height of the sun in the late afternoons. Our export reminds us that the autumn equinox is in a few days.

We report: this is pre-dawn. Under the glare of the streetlight, we hear a robin‘s song. The blue of this twilight is vibrating at a strange frequency that we cannot place. It seems to be a shade we had never seen before, solid and fuzzy at the same time. Our ears are buzzing.

We report at nightfall, ahead of the cold front we are expecting in the morning: the wind is rising. The atmospheric pressure is still dropping. The stars are twinkling through the clouds; the humidity is creating halos around them. The few raindrops are flying in the breeze.

We report: it is raining a little, sparse few drops here and there. The sunset is keeping low to the horizon under the weight of the clouds. Walking home, the street lamps haphazardly turn on, unpredictable. The telltale, dry crackle when they turn on makes us look up.

We report: gorse and heather are in full bloom now, and the hills smell like honey. Also, because it rained so much in the previous week, we can make out some brand new autumn smells. They are an odd, but familiar mix of rotting wood, damp chalk, and crisp nights.

We report: we lost the moonrise in the clouds tonight, and our expert seemed a little dejected about it. For this reason, we are now waiting for a hypothetical moment when the moon might still appear; though we are aware there is rain on the radar in the next half hour.

Taken with my wife's birding camera. (Nikon P900) I ended up having to sit down and prop my elbows on my knees to keep the camera stead enough to snap pics. These were taken at pretty close to maximum.

We report: it has rained most days this week, and we still get surprised whenever it happens - and then, later on again, when it goes on for more than a handful of minutes. The air is brisk at sunset, raindrops are catching on our shins when we walk on the grass.

We report: it got dark faster than we had anticipated, inky cobalt turning into black in a few blinks. Later on, when not a hint of blue remains in the sky, we hear thunder. It comes and goes for hours, a continuous stream of storm cells. We fall asleep before it stops.

We report: the sun is setting to the chattering of the jackdaws. We seem to only come across this group at this time of the day, when we are alone. We have taken to nodding at them, hoping to establish a friendship solely on that basis. The wind is whistling through phone lines.

We report: last week, we stood outside at night for hours on end during the peak of the Perseids. Tonight, the sky is even clearer, and we would do it again - had the temperature not dropped by half since. Even our jacket feels a little flimsy after a few minutes of staring up.

We report at sunrise, after another bout of rain late in the night: twice in a row seems promising with regard to our dreams. We hope we can establish a pattern of rainy days with a third one tomorrow. We already see some leaves unfurl from their drought-induced curl-ups.
