Lanterns had that trope/theme in most of Tom King’s stuff I’ve read where you’re meant to feel sorry for the soldier-like character for committing atrocities but ignoring or dehumanizing the victims of said atrocities.

We should all vote for Chow in Toronto, but basically nobody with power will ever match their rhetoric on Israel with praxis. It’s basic self-protective instinct.

Shockingly the more power you get the more you identify with and feel allied to other people with power, and the voices of people without power seem less and less relevant. If only this wasn’t a constant and inevitable force.

Mamdani has genuinely made some missteps on i/p and on policing. The reason thr protest against him has such bad rhetoric/messaging is because the local chapter has opted against pushing him from the left, leaving the lane open to ultras.

To maybe clarify and hone in on what I’m critiquing here, the show is usually just a platform for its guests than it is a critical interview. It wants to be Toronto’s Two Important Chairs more than it wants to be a biopsy on truth and current events and public figures

We have too many “journalists” that are just-happy-to-be-here, and just happy to get whatever engagement their guests will be getting them, but I guess SEO is how you eat, and this show feels heavily slanted to appeasing that optimization

I continue to be startled by how cringe Toronto The Politics The Show’s name is, and it’s not helped by the really sophomoric journalism. Impressed by how the host was able to cash in with so little.

This is the kind of nuanced analysis of how not all types of private investment are good for Canada should have happened beforehand, as part of a Royal Commission. My worry is that what Prof. Indart identifies as a bug — a lack of attention to these differences — is to Carney a feature.
